Thank you to one of our lovely parents, Mrs Gooderson, for this fabulous feedback on our nursery provision.
Dear Mrs Gardener,
I am writing to let you know how valuable I believe Flitcham nursery is and to thank you for providing this much needed service. When William and Francesca began attending Flitcham Primary in September 2021, William in Reception and Francesca in nursery, I was so relieved to learn that the school offered mixed class settings and that they would be together. They both settled in very quickly and it was wonderful to see how the teachers were able to teach them both separately and together, ensuring that their individual learning goals were met, in relation to their academic years. As the school year progressed, their confidence increased and they thoroughly enjoyed their learning experiences. Having been in the nursery class prior to beginning her reception year has allowed Francesca to experience a gentle introduction to the school system and understanding of the school rules and expectations in a relaxed setting before beginning reception class, which whilst also more relaxed in relation to other year groups, is more structured than the nursery class in terms of educational expectations. Francesca was already comfortable with the school, knew the teaching staff and had made friends which meant that she settled into reception class quickly and happily. She also had the opportunity to join in with reception class teachings whilst in nursery, including phonics and was therefore able to meet certain reception class goals before the end of her nursery year. If Flitcham did not provide a nursery class, Francesca would have had to continue attending her previous nursery. Although this was an excellent setting, I was very pleased to learn that Flitcham provided a nursery class, because I felt that this would help Francesca to settle into school life so much quicker and that she would have the opportunity to make nursery friends, thus easing her transition into school and helping to increase her confidence and sense of security and well-being. Confident and happy children are more likely to make the most of and recognise their individual talents and therefore it is essential to me that my children feel safe, happy and confident whilst in school. I am delighted to be able to tell you that both William and Francesca enjoy school very much and look forward to each day. Aurora will begin the nursery class in September and is already looking forward to this. I know that she will be well cared for by your excellent teaching staff and that her individual needs will be met and talents recognised and nurtured. Thank you again for providing a nursery class. I believe that it is an essential provision for the reasons mentioned and if it were not available I may have had to consider sending my children to an alternative school.
