RECALLING YOUR FAVOURITE GOLF SHOT

Think for a few moments about your favourite shot of all time and try to recall your internal state in the moments before you took the club away. Chances are you experienced something like a state of “relaxed readiness” with a quiet focus, a clarity of intention and a
commitment to movement without nerves, anxiety, or mental interference getting in the way.

Did you know you can actually train yourself to remove the blocks and limitations to performance, not with the mental game but with a simple, proven and trusted Performance Practice.

Unlike the mainstream approach to putting which uses the shoulders to create the motion, Chi Performance applies natural movement principles from the martial arts - such as being properly balanced and moving from the body's centre of gravity - to quiet the mind, release upper body tension and anchor you to the ground.

If you're working on the drills from Connected Golf, try maintaining the 'four fundamental actions' developed in standing practice, as you go through your swing. Practicing in slow motion is really helpful here. Well done to David who I met at the beautiful Alton GC earlier.

The athlete with the quietest mind is always the one to exhibit the most fluid movement and find the extra edge needed on those big points. When the thinking mind quietens down, the body can move the way it’s supposed to, with a connected power and grace that emerges naturally in the moment. Yet this connected movement can only spring from an athlete who has trained, honed and embodies certain principles through which technical and mental prowess are unified.

This is the way of deep practice which I firmly believe is the one true path leading to a never ending ascension consistent with continual high performance.

I'm settling in for a conversation later with renowned golf commentator, instructor and author Mark Immelman, who is joining me on my Performance Practice podcast to discuss the disconnect between how golf is taught and how it is experienced.

Over the decades, I’ve noticed something about elite golf. Many of the world’s top players describe their best golf using words like trust, freedom, presence, flow and instinct. Yet most golf instruction remains heavily focused on analysis and control. We'll talk about the current narrative and what we can do to shift the conversation around golf and performance per se.

The episode will be live next week. Watch this space.
