What an unforgettable night, hosted at the heart of our community, the Filey Golf Club! 🏌️♂️💫

A huge thank you to Filey Golf Club for welcoming us once again. The venue was perfect, and we couldn’t have done it without Ben and the team. Your efforts made the evening extra special for our students, thank you! 🙌

Big shoutout to DJ Eth Ellis for keeping the beats pumping all night long, and a surprise performance from the legend himself, Mr Anderson, on the saxophone who was absolutely epic! 🎷🎶

Another massive thank you to Balloons by Amy for transforming the space with your stunning creations, you nailed it as always! 🎈✨

We’re so grateful to the PTFA and the CAP for their generous donations that helped make this night one to remember.

Despite a little bit of unpredictable weather, we danced the night away in style, bringing the best vibes and showing off some seriously stunning outfits! 😍👗🕴💃

What an amazing day! Five of our Year 10 students spent the day at Primrose Valley undertaking some work experience. The park management and staff had put together a really exciting and testing package for them which included litter picking, learning to serve food and drinks, mocktail making, pizza making, and a design session in the creative arts area. The day culminated with a competition to determine which pairing could strip and make a double bed in a caravan in the shortest time! It was a great day which the students found really rewarding.

What a final day that was! Our Year 6 students were treated to another range of exciting lessons before the start of the sports event this afternoon. It was no surprise that the sports event was clearly the highlight of the day - pictures to follow!. The ice cream van was a close second, as was the golden ticket draw at lunchtime, where we had 12 winners! Drama lessons proved to be a favourite as was design technology for the second day running.

The 'WOW' comments today were dominated by sport and ice-cream - as expected. It was also lovely to see our Ambassadors being appreciated in the WOW comments. I am happy to say that there were very few worries. There were no worries about the start of term in September which was good to see. The main one today was - 'Will I enjoy the sports day as I don't like sport very much'. Clearly they did!

We are now at the end of day 2 - where has the time gone! As promised on Monday, we are sharing the feedback from out Year 6 students following activities from today....

A selection of the WOW comments from today....

How good the teachers are and everything I learned today!
When I found out that we had Drama today - I was so excited
Meeting and making new friends
In the food lesson when I made pizza bread
Really nice teachers
The demonstrate in Geography was great
DT because I enjoyed making my keyring. Geography was cool and the teacher was nice
Maths is better than it is at my school

The worries were very similar to yesterday, as the main one was about getting lost next term. We have staff and students on hand at all times to make sure this won't happen.

The other worry that came out today was that the work today was quite hard at times. At Filey School we will always challenge our students to achieve. Our teachers and support staff are always on hand to help every student achieve their best.

Finally, remember tomorrow that students should arrive in school at normal time but dressed in their PE kit.

Following on from a lovely evening last night, the transition event started today and what a great day it has been. Our Year 6 students have had some wonderful opportunities throughout the day! They have also provided us with some feedback about their 'WOW' moments and also their worries, either from today, for tomorrow or even for September.

Here are some of the comments.
'WOW' moments.....
"The moment my food came out of the oven!"
"When I got to make pizza bread! - I have never done it before"
"My science lesson was amazing - I got to do experiments"
"Science was so good!"
"Winning a golden ticket!"
"I made new friends today - I was really worried about that"

When it came to the worries - there was only one real worry and that was - "I am worried about getting lost". Please be assured that at Filey School, you are in the best hands possible. Staff and students will be available to guide you to the correct room, so please don't worry about being lost!

Tomorrow is going to be even better. I's the same start time in the morning. Year 6 students will be met on arrival and taken to the marquee, ready for a really exciting day of learning experiences. See you all tomorrow!

Postcard invitations have been sent to all of our primary feeder schools, inviting Year 6 students to our transition event next week. The event starts with a presentation to families at 5.00pm in the marquee, followed by an opportunity to meet staff. The transition event itself starts on Tuesday 1st July. We look forward to meeting you all!

It’s been the driest start to the year since the 1950s and we need your help
It's so lovely to have some proper sunny weather in Yorkshire, but did you know it's been the driest combined February, March and April for almost 90 years?
Little or no rainfall = low reservoir levels.
It's important we're all mindful of how we're using water and do our bit to use it wisely, especially while our reservoirs are low.

Families can help by using less, with these simple tips!

The Year 6 Transition event starts two weeks today with a presentation to families of our new Year 6 students at 5.00pm in the marquee at Filey School. On Tuesday 1st July, Year 6 students should arrive at Filey School for 8.30am in their school uniform, for the start of the three day transition event. We look forward to meeting you all!

After the success of Safeguarding Week 2024, community, adult and children safeguarding partnerships from across North Yorkshire, City of York, City of Hull and East Riding have come together to offer a programme of safeguarding learning across all communities.
The key message of the campaign is ‘safeguarding is everyone’s business ‘ and we encourage everyone to take full advantage of the wonderful array of safeguarding training and awareness raising that is made available for FREE in the programme below.
