With the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) taking place in Türkiye this November, there’s no better time for schools to explore how they can strengthen their sustainability and climate education.

I’m delighted to be leading a series of free online sessions every term, in collaboration with BCP Council and Dorset Council , to support schools in turning climate awareness into meaningful action.

Our first session will take place during COP31, bringing together practical ideas, useful resources and opportunities to help make sustainability part of everyday school life.

✅ The latest updates on the DfE Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy
✅ Curriculum resources and practical teaching ideas
✅ National campaigns, awareness days and themed weeks
✅ Opportunities to work with environmental organisations and initiatives
✅ Funding and grants to support school sustainability projects
✅ Examples of how other schools are embedding sustainability into their culture and curriculum

Whether you’re a Sustainability Lead, Eco-Coordinator, senior leader, teacher or governor, this session is designed to give you ideas, inspiration and practical next steps.

We had such a lovely time at gardening club today! The kids really enjoyed connecting with natural colours in the garden and creating bug hospitals, hotels and homes!! 💚🐞🕷️

We’ll be focussing on drought resistant plants next and rain water harvesting! 💦

We’re delighted to have a second exhibition at Lighthouse Poole as part of Black History Month, sharing the stories of the African American GIs who were stationed across Dorset in 1944 before leaving for the D-Day landings in France.

Around 8,000 African American soldiers were based in Dorset during the Second World War, living in towns and villages including Weymouth, Poole and Cerne Abbas. Through photographs, stories, artwork and first-hand accounts, the exhibition brings their experiences to life and explores the connections they made with local people.

One particularly moving memory comes from Joyce Marsh, who was just eight years old when the soldiers arrived in Cerne Abbas. She remembered the day they left:

"… on the day they were moving out, we were called to the playground, and outside in the road were a number of soldiers bearing gifts for us all… We went home that day loaded with presents… some of us were in tears; to think, we would never see them again. They were saying, 'we’ve got to move on.' But we never did see them again."

It’s a lovely reminder of the friendships and connections that can grow between people from different backgrounds, and the lasting memories they leave behind.

Open now at Lighthouse Poole!

We’re pleased to be working with Swanage-based artist Sharon James on 'The Past Is Present', a powerful exhibition exploring history, memory, heritage and identity.

Curated by Sharon, the exhibition brings together her ever-evolving 'Blackground' works with nine new pieces, a film essay and a book featuring 50 images and the stories behind their creation.

Alongside the visual art, film and writing, the exhibition includes African textiles rich in symbolism, creating a fascinating dialogue between past and present and opening up conversations around heritage, identity and lived experience.

As Sharon says:

“Some people say that’s all in the past, but it’s constantly coming up in the present. It’s our heritage.”

This event as part of the Planet Wimborne Green Festival looks great! It's being held at Queen Elizabeth's School - Wimborne Minster and is on the weekend so everyone can go!

The Past Is Present | Black History Month

We’re really looking forward to launching 'The Past Is Present', a new exhibition by artist Sharon James, at Lighthouse Poole this October.

FREE launch event | Saturday 10 October, 12–4pm

Come along, meet Sharon, explore the exhibition and enjoy some refreshments as we celebrate Black History Month.

Sharon’s work explores Black British history, heritage and identity, bringing together her 'Blackground' series with new work, film and stories inspired by her research and personal experiences.

The exhibition also includes textiles from DEED’s Sankofa exhibition of artisanal crafts from Ghana, alongside a personal collection of contemporary African wax-printed cloth.

It’s a fascinating exploration of colour, pattern, history and the connections between past and present.
