Ferndale Community School We serve the well-defined communities of Ferndale, Maerdy, Penrhys and Tylorstown.

Ferndale Community School is a mixed 11 – 16 school located at the northern end of the Rhondda Fach valley in the town of Maerdy within the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff. The school provides many of the traditional values that have inspired education in Wales – respect, high academic expectations and well-qualified and dedicated staff. At the same time the school constantly adapts to the new requirements in this ever-changing world.

What a year group! You’ve made us proud, made us laugh, tested our patience 😉 and kept us on our toes!

Today is about celebrating YOU and everything you’ve achieved. Results are only one small part of your story – the friendships, memories, challenges you’ve overcome and the young people you’ve become matter just as much. 🥰

We’ll miss the personalities, the banter, the laughter… and yes, we might even miss the chaos! 😂

Whatever comes next – sixth form, college, apprenticeships, work or something completely different – go for it and believe in yourselves.

🎓 Congratulations to our GCSE students! 🎓

We are delighted to celebrate a very positive set of GCSE results for our Year 11 pupils across a wide range of subjects.

These achievements are, first and foremost, a reflection of the hard work, resilience and determination of our pupils. Throughout their courses, they have shown real commitment to their learning, responded positively to challenge and worked incredibly hard to achieve the best outcomes possible. We are extremely proud of everything they have accomplished.

We would also like to recognise the dedication and hard work of our staff, who have supported pupils every step of the way through high-quality teaching, revision sessions, intervention, guidance and encouragement. Their commitment, alongside the support of parents and carers, has played an important part in helping our pupils reach this point.

We are equally pleased with the excellent range of results achieved by our Year 10 pupils. Their success this year provides a strong foundation as they move into Year 11 and continue working towards their remaining qualifications.

As a school, we are incredibly proud of all of our pupils and wish them every success as they move on to the next stage of their education, training and future careers.

To all of our pupils, whatever your next steps may be, Ferndale Community School will always be here to support you whenever needed.

8 E have been reading a new book called Sweet Pizza, following the life of a young boy from the Valleys with Italian heritage. Joe is on a mission to turn his family's cafe around, introducing Sweet Pizza to the people of the Valley.

This week students in Year 8 have been making their own Sweet Pizzas. Special thanks to Tesco for providing the fruit for our toppings!

Starting in September, students from Year 6-8 in Rhondda Fach Valley will be taking part in the Reading Challenge, with each book read resulting in points.
There are lots of competitions planned.

If your child is in Year 6, 7 or 8 and attends Ferndale, Pontygwaith, Maerdy, Tylorstown, Darren Park or Penrhys schools, they will be taking part with access to free reading books to ensure they improve their literacy skills and develop their love for reading.
