18 YEARS OF SOUTHWELL DANCE SCHOOL

18 years ago today, we took a leap of faith…

Amy & Melanie met in 2005 at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance in London while studying for their teaching certificates. We instantly shared the dream of creating our own school and something really special.

Fast forward to 2008… one stereo, a handful of CDs, paper registers and 5 pupils in a tennis court!

Within 3 months, we had 50 pupils.

Today, we’re incredibly proud of 350 dancers, 6 amazing teachers and 18 years of memories.

Who would have thought it?

So thankful we took that leap, and forever grateful to every dancer and family who has been part of our journey.

💙 Onto their next chapters… 💙

There’s something very special about watching these girls grow up with us.

From tiny dancers taking their first steps in the studio, to the incredible young women they are today — we’ve had the privilege of watching them learn, grow, laugh, perform, overcome challenges and make so many memories along the way.

And now, it’s time for their next adventure. ✨

They’re heading off in all sorts of exciting directions — university, travelling, new opportunities and new experiences. Wherever life takes them, we know they’ll take with them the confidence, resilience, friendships and memories they’ve made along the way.

We couldn’t be prouder of the strong, intelligent, kind and resilient young women they have become.

Southwell Dance School has always been about so much more than dance, and these girls will always be part of our dance school family. 💙

We’re going to miss seeing you in the studio, but we’re so excited to see where life takes you next.

Go and make the most of it — your futures are looking very bright! ✨

Sending our gorgeous Alexa lots of luck this week with her performances with National Youth Ballet nationalyouthballet.

It was a massive achievement to get a place and she’s had a fabulous time rehearsing the pieces with dancers, younger and older, from across the whole of the UK.

Alexa also entered their in-house choreography showcase. She choreographed herself a beautuful piece and performed it so amazingly (enjoy the video below).

We hope you are all enjoying the summer break 😍.

Martha spent her first week at Northern Ballet School summer school. She literally went straight to the train station from the show and spent a fabulous week in Leeds and even met Darcey Bussell ❤️. An amazing experience, we’re super proud of you Martha 🩰.

Alongside our daytime summer school we have held some evening workshops for our seniors, 💫

They have covered Contemporary with Miss Rowan, Musical Theatre with guest teacher Miss Olivia, and finally lyrical jazz with Miss Lauren.

It was great to try different styles while we still have some energy left after the show weekend. Now it’s time to rest!
