Group tuition with a difference...

Small group Maths tuition for pupils in Year 4 up to Year 11 wit

Operating as usual

24/08/2023

I have had most of the results in now and I am proud of each and every student I have taught, whether they got the grade they wanted, did better than expected or didn't quite get what they were hoping for.

Each and every one of my students has worked so hard over the past year (or 6 years for some) with me. I couldn't be any prouder of any of you. It may be that your plans have to change or be delayed for a little while. But whatever happens just be the best you, you can be. The future is not set in stone so go out there and see what you can be.

I will be running a re-take session on Tuesdays at 8:30pm for any wishing to re-take in November or next May. You do not have to have had sessions with me before to attend.

23/08/2023

Good luck to everyone receiving GCSE and iGCSE results tomorrow. I hope all your hard work pays off. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you all.

This morning I have been playing with the new calculator Casio have brought out. I must admit I was a little worried, having heard about them through the grapevine. Although some of the buttons have moved and changed, I feel it's a user friendly calculator.

This model calculator has replaced the current Casio calculator that students start using at secondary school. I suspect the old model will be around for some years to come, before this model will start becoming main calculator being used. For this reason I will have both the old style and new style calculators available to use in sessions for at least the next few years.

Students in Year 5 and 6 have a chance to use scientific calculators in some of my sessions so that come Year 7, they know what they are doing and the transition to Year 7 maths is that little bit easier.

NEW YEAR 11 MATHS GROUPS STARTING IN SEPTEMBER

Is your child moving into Year 11 in September? Are you looking for some tuition to boost their confidence and develop their understanding in Maths?

I have spaces in my small group Year 11 GCSE sessions. Throughout the year I will cover a variety of topics and go through many exam questions related to those topics. I will also do lots of specific exam practice.

I love my job! It is so varied each and every day. One lesson I may be teaching a student to subtract 2 digit numbers, the next I will be teaching trigonometry. No two lessons are ever the same!

Many students have had end of year exams recently and results are slowly being fed back. For most it’s positive feedback, but for the one or two where it didn’t quite go to plan we look at what happened and then plan for the future. There are always days when exams don’t go to plan, but they are just bumps in the road and we will find a way around them.

14/06/2023

The last GCSE Maths paper for this year. I hope it goes well for everyone!

12/06/2023

All invoices for all evening and weekend students have gone out this morning (including students registered to start in September). Please check your SPAM folder if you haven't received an email. Thursday morning and 1 to 1 invoices will go out in the next few days.

07/06/2023

Today is the second GCSE and iGCSE paper. Good luck to everyone taking one of these papers today.

I know my students have been working hard and revising so today is a chance to show the examiners what you know.

05/06/2023

The SEN parents support group has restarted in Farnham, in association with Challengers. I work with many children with additional needs and have children with SEN myself.

Sometimes it's nice to have somewhere to chat with parents who get it, who understand the struggles we live with on daily basis.

We are delighted to be able to share that this group is back to meeting weekly😀

19/05/2023

Today is the first Maths iGCSE and GCSE paper for many of my students.

This is what we've been working for, for a long time. Remember to attempt all the questions and make sure the examiners can read your numbers!

18/05/2023

The bottom of Upper Hale Road is now 4 way lights. Today 2 way lights have been installed close to Beacon Hill and are expected to be there for a week. Please allow extra time to get to sessions tonight (and maybe the next 7 days).

17/05/2023

The bottom of Upper Hale Road was closed this afternoon due to an oil spill. The local area is more congested than usual so please allow extra time to get to your session this evening.

18/04/2023

Maths sessions restart on Saturday. I hope those who are school this week have a good week.

16/04/2023

I will be offering day time 1 to 1 sessions during study leave for any GCSE students, whether they attend sessions with me or not, for anyone who wants a bit of extra revision.

Please get in touch to see what I can offer.

27/03/2023

There are now only 52 days until the first GCSE Maths exam. Time seems to have flown!

This term seems to have involved endless Year 11 mock exams at school. Most weeks this term, at least one of my Year 11 students have been undertaking mock GCSE exams and now some of my younger year students are taking their yearly school Maths exams.

With sessions finishing on Wednesday for the term I hope there will be lots of GCSE revision going on (in lots of subjects) before sessions restart after Easter.

For any parents who are unsure of dates, please check your child's Maths book. Most books now have the new dates stuck on them.

Just as a quick reminder, Summer term invoices are due on Wednesday also.

11/03/2023

I have already started having enquiries for September so thought I would quickly mention two new groups I will be running in September. These groups run differently to my normal groups.

This year I have been running a Foundation GCSE group aimed at Year 11s who are aiming for a 4 or 5. All the students have been taught the same topic each week. From my perspective it has been a very successful and all students are on target for their predicted grades.

In September I will be running the following Year 11 groups:

Foundation GCSE group: Target Grade 4/5. Tuesdays at 7:40pm (You need to be a solid 3 to be suitable for this group)

Higher GCSE group: Target Grade 6. Wednesdays at 8:00pm (You need to be a 4 and taking the Higher paper in your Year 10 mocks to be suitable for this group).

My usual groups will also be running in September

07/03/2023

An email has been sent out to all parents who have a Year 11 student in one of my sessions. Please drop me a line if you have not received it.

10/01/2023

Just a reminder that there is a pause of sessions this week but sessions will resume next week. Everyone who brought their exercise books last week will have term dates stuck to the front of their book.

02/01/2023

Sessions restart tomorrow. I look forward to seeing everyone back after a break.

25/12/2022

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you have had a wonderful day however you have spent it.

15/12/2022

IMPORTANT NOTICE: It has been brought to my attention that Quickbooks has not been sending reminder or new invoices for me recently. Evening and weekend student invoices are now overdue. If you haven't received an invoice or paid please get in touch ASAP.

04/12/2022

It is the last week of sessions before Christmas and the decorations are up!

22/10/2022

There are no sessions between 22nd and 30th October due to half term

22/09/2022

Are there any existing Year 11 students who would be willing to swap their session to a Thursday 4:35pm session? I have a student whose circumstances have changed and needs a session on a different day.

04/09/2022

Due to an unexpected cancellation of a student coming for a trial soon, I have one space for a Year 11 student who is already working at a Grade 4/5 level.

02/09/2022

I have had a few emails asking when sessions restart.

Sessions start on Saturday 10th September.

Full term date information can be found on my website www.topoftheclasstuition.com

02/09/2022

My weekend and evening sessions may be full but I do still have spaces in my Thursday morning sessions.

25/08/2022

Good luck to everyone receiving their GCSE results today.

23/08/2022

Summer holiday Maths sessions finished today so this evening my boys are making the most of my whiteboard and watching a bit of Scooby Doo.

27/07/2022

Availability for September 2022:

* 2 spaces on Wednesdays at 8:00pm for Year 11 students (new group added)
* Various spaces on Thursdays between 9:00am and 1:00pm
* (1 to 1 space on Tuesdays at 8:35pm)

All other sessions are full for the Autumn Term

04/07/2022

Sessions end on Thursday for the term. I still have a few ad-hoc summer holiday sessions available for anyone who wishes to have one (or more).

It's been another busy term. I think most year groups from Year 4 right up to Year 11 have had school Maths exams of one sort or another.

The motto I have adopted this year is "Work hard, play hard". All of my students have worked so incredibly hard this year. However I always try to leave a minute or 2 each session to chat to my students and let them tell me about things that have happened in their lives. This term this has ranged from a chat about mobile phone protective screen covers to what students have done at lunch during their work experience. I believe building a positive bond between myself and my students is so important for a positive learning experience to occur.

22/06/2022

1 to 1 Summer Holiday Sessions

Sessions open to current students and those who do not attend my group sessions.

Dates available are: 27th July, 28th July, 4th August and 23rd August.

Please get in touch for more details

21/06/2022

I have just been made aware that there are temporary lights just down the road until Saturday. This is making traffic very bad. Please allow extra time for drop off and collection.

07/06/2022

Paper 2 today.

I hope it goes well for everyone.
