This week, our Year 4 boys and girls had a fantastic morning with professional football coach Danny Cowley (who managed Portsmouth, Huddersfield, and Lincoln City).

Danny delivered a brilliant training session with the children, which they thoroughly enjoyed! It was fantastic to see all of the children taking part. A special thanks to Mr Storey, who kindly gifted this session to our Year 4s.

An exciting day awaits these Year 5 pupils who have been selected to attend the William Cobbett Primary School’s A.I.M. High Writing Day. The day includes a prestigious writing workshop with the author, Matt Whyman, to expand their writing skills further.

We can't wait to hear all about it!

A huge thank you to the Barfield Friends and Year 3, Owlets and Owls parents for a fabulous Christmas Fair on Friday. We had some brilliant vendors and a fabulous time was had by all. A special shout out to our very own Eco Squad who made some amazing eco friendly goodies good.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who really stepped up to help make it a success.

Our Reception children had a brilliant International WOW Day yesterday! They got to dress up in something representing a country, like food, an animal, traditional dress or flag colours.

They enjoyed many activities, from cooking palmier biscuits in France to dancing Bollywood style in India. They learnt the song "Around the World" in music lessons and flew to Italy with pilot Mr Ardia. The children picked Dubai as a destination, and the trip included in-flight snacks of palmiers they had made earlier. They also did craft activities in Peru and India. Opening the doorway to adventures beyond the four walls of the classroom and engaging their imaginations is a beautiful sight.

Thanks to Mr Ardia for taking the children on such a thrilling adventure!

During PE lessons, our Year 2s have been learning about cooperation. Completing several tasks, which they had to do in groups, was only possible with teamwork. Our recent ISI inspection found that our pupils' social awareness and ability to work together is outstanding! We can ensure our pupils learn these valuable skills thanks to lessons like this.

A busy morning of exams for our Upper School children means a fun afternoon is in store! Yesterday, the girls enjoyed a competitive and loud afternoon in the pool for Inter-House Swimming 🏊

Whether a star in the pool or still learning the ropes, everyone got to take part and was cheered on by friends and fellow housemates. It was lovely to see the senior girls getting behind the juniors and supporting them along the way. Team spirit, enthusiasm and compassion were the order of the day!

Well done to Griffith, who took first place. πŸ’š

We've had another exciting visit today from Dental Hygienist Adrienne from Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic. With the help of Georgia the Giraffe, children from Hatchlings through to Reception were shown how to brush their teeth properly and time themselves using an egg timer. They also learnt about the types of food and drink that are good or bad for your teeth.

Thank you Adrienne for helping us to smile even brighter.

Today, our Owlets embarked on a journey as they continued to explore the topic "People Who Help Us" and set their imaginations alite. 🌍

The joy they found in sorting and delivering mail πŸ’Œ, painting a pretend fire and being the firefighters who put it outπŸ”₯to working in the hair salon πŸ’‡β€β™‚οΈ and helping sick animals in the vets was palpable. They also had a go at sorting recycling and putting items into the correct recycle bins.♻️

They had a blast exploring just a few vital roles performed by people who help us. Building on their world understanding and inspiring a few budding young minds.

We love to celebrate the achievements of our children both inside and outside of school. It was a busy weekend for many of our pupils.

A huge congratulations to the following superstars;

Nancy (Year 3) competed in the 2023 CRDM Leinster Championships in Irish Dancing. She won a staggering seven medals, including a Silver in her slip jig (light shoe dance) and a Gold in her heavy jig (hard shoe dance).

Sophia (Year 6) took the Silver medal in the individual female at the Surrey Schools Ski Championships. She was only 0.2s shy of first place! She also placed 3rd in the dual knockout team event.

Ava (Year 6) got 4 medals in her first race representing Farnham Swimming Club with a Gold in Butterfly, Gold in Backstroke, Bronze in Breaststroke and Silver in Front Crawl.

Due to technical issues, we had to postpone our Remembrance Assembly on Friday, but we managed to gather yesterday for a very moving assembly led by Mr Reid. The service was a fitting tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, allowing us to savour the freedoms we cherish today. We also want to thank Mrs Kay, who shared excerpts from her grandfather's diary during his time as a soldier in WW2.

13/11/2023

Today is World Kindness Day! We celebrate and foster kindness throughout our school, whether between peers or teachers; Barfield is proud to practice kindness in everything we do.

We started the week with an assembly highlighting the beginning of Anti-Bullying Week, understanding how to go out of our way to help others and "make a noise about bullying".

As the saying goes, "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing." We know how to get out in all weather here at Barfield. Our youngest children, the Hatchlings, ventured out in the rain and had their first Outdoor Learning session this week. The joy and happiness they experienced as they searched for bugs, found lots of beautiful autumnal leaves and enjoyed being one with nature is lovely to see. And, of course, the hot chocolate at the end is always a winner πŸ˜ƒ

Having happy children is at the heart of everything we do!

"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free. It's freedom I want for everyone I teach." - Frederick Douglass

At Barfield, we take these words to heart. We are committed to the power of education and the joy of reading. πŸ“–πŸ“š

Our library time is not just about books; it's about unlocking the doors to knowledge and imagination. We're dedicated to nurturing young minds and helping them discover the world within the pages of a book. 🌍✨

This week, our book fair brought a heightened sense of enjoyment to the library, where children from every class could explore a vast range of books and put aside some favourites to purchase later.

Thank you to for coming to showcase all of these lovely books.

Our Year 6s are taking inspiration from Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama and abstract expressionist artist Willem de Kooning in their work this week. They're not just replicating these artists' work but using it as a springboard for their own creativity.

Just brilliant!

Photos from Barfield School's post 02/11/2023

Yesterday, our Year 2s embarked on a fantastic journey with The Openbox Theatre Company, who presented a captivating and immersive history workshop in which our students could travel back in time to the bustling streets of London in 1665, just before the Great Fire of 1666 changed the course of history. The workshop was a riveting educational adventure that allowed our children to step into the shoes of the townsfolk of that era and experience life as it was over 350 years ago.

The workshop's highlight was when our Year 2s, in the role of the fire itself, worked together to understand the fire's progression and, ultimately, extinguish the flames. This hands-on experience allowed them to appreciate the gravity of the situation and the efforts required to save their beloved city. What a brilliant way to bring history to life in a fun and exciting way!

In their Humanities lessons, our Year 4s have had a go at making their very own Anglo-Saxon brooch. These brooches may have been cast from bronze or iron and perhaps decorated with gold or silver, often coming as part of a pair, one worn on each shoulder to secure clothing.

They started by drawing a brooch design onto paper and then glued pieces of string onto their designs. Once complete, they cover the brooch in aluminium foil and press the foil down into the gaps between the string in their design. Finally, they decorated their silver brooches with sequins and gems to add colour, texture and a bit of sparkle.

Welcome back Barfield. We hope you had a great break and are looking forward to the second half of our Autumn Term. We have so much in store over the next few weeks!

We are so happy that our pond is being put to good use. All children from Reception up to Year 6 can venture into the orchard and enjoy pond dipping. Our Reception class had a fabulous Outdoor Learning session looking for life in the water. It was a beautiful sunny day, meaning the creatures lying below the surface were shyer than usual. But that didn't stop them from having a really good go at finding them :-) πŸ¦—πŸ”

You're never too old for den building. Our Year 6s still love to go out into the woods and show off their skills. They have even created a comfy bed to sleep on using palm fronds. Looks pretty inviting, even on a cold and rainy day πŸ˜†

We do love a spot of head, shoulders, knees and meatballs. 😁 Reception PE lessons are packed with laughter! Using fun games during lessons gives pupils plenty of opportunities to be physically active during school time. Our lessons keep them busy and teach the basics of body awareness and positioning.

20/10/2023

Happy Friday! Wishing all of our fantastic pupils and staff a restful half-term! We hope you have a great week, and we look forward to seeing you all after the break.

Our Year 3s have got us off to a great start as we mark Recycle Week. In Science lessons today, groups of 3-4 were given a material to research and then had to create a post on how we recycle it. They presented their findings and posters to the class on either food, paper, metal, plastic or glass recycling.

Great teamwork and presentation skills were shown, as well as some fantastic handwriting and drawing.
