Inspiring Young Minds!
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Old Barfieldian Emma Taylor back to school as part of our World Book Day celebrations! Emma has recently written and illustrated her very first children’s book, Bella Bee, and our Nursery children were absolutely captivated as she read her delightful story to them.
It was wonderful to see one of our former pupils inspiring the next generation of young readers and storytellers. Emma will be back on Thursday morning from 8.15am - 9.00am with copies of her book for parents to purchase and she's offered to sign them too. You can also buy her book for £5.99 online here 👉 https://amzn.eu/d/5WocYM8
Thank you, Emma, for sharing your creativity with us – we can’t wait to see what you do next!

Last week, we welcomed our fluffiest guest yet, Toby, a 6-month-old Golden Retriever pup! 🐾
On his first visit to our EYFS children, Toby was an absolute superstar – so gentle, calm, and wonderfully behaved. He lapped up all the cuddles and brought so much joy to the children, who absolutely loved spending time with him!
We can’t wait for more puppy playdates in the future!

We are so excited to kick off our very first STEM week tomorrow!
What is STEM? It's more than just four subjects; it’s a way of thinking!
At Barfield Prep, we see Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics as the building blocks of the future. In today’s fast-paced, digital world, STEM education is essential for helping children think critically, solve problems creatively, and connect their learning to real life.
This week, our classrooms will be buzzing with exciting STEM activities. Through lots of hands-on experiments and challenges, our children will explore, innovate, and develop confidence in their abilities.
Watch this space for more over the coming days.

Theme Park in the Making!
Our Year 6 pupils have been busy working in pairs to design and build their very own model park rides in Design Technology this half-term. From thrilling rollercoasters to spooky haunted houses, they have used various techniques to bring their creative visions to life.
Once the finishing touches are completed, they'll be combining their rides to create a full theme park—how amazing is that?! 👏 We can't wait to see the final masterpiece!

What a great way to end a busy first half of our Spring Term. Prep Schools Trust Chief Executive Tom Beardmore-Gray presented a special prize to Emmy (Year 6), who recently participated in the Prep Schools Trust Annual History Competition. It was a tough gig, with over 175 pupils from all 7 Trust schools competing. Emmy won 3rd place overall as an individual competitor with some competing in groups. Well done Emmy!
We wish the Barfield Community a very happy half-term and look forward to seeing you all for our action-packed STEM week after the break.

Today, we join the global celebration of Safer Internet Day, a day dedicated to promoting a safer, more responsible, and positive digital world.
The internet offers children endless opportunities to learn, connect, and explore, but it also comes with risks. As parents, educators, and communities, we have a shared responsibility to help young people navigate the online world safely.
Let’s commit to creating a secure, supportive, and positive online space for our children. Together, we can empower them to explore the digital world with confidence and caution!

Our Year 1 classes have been exploring the magical world of fairytales, and busy crafting their own stories inspired by the classic Three Little Pigs!
They created unique characters, including brand-new villains like "the big bad tiger" and creative materials to build their houses. From planning their stories to writing them, this activity has been an excellent way to spark creativity while building essential English writing skills. By developing their characters and plots, our little storytellers have been working on their sentence structure, expanding their vocabulary, and practising the flow of a narrative. The best part? They're learning to express their ideas with confidence.

Top Tip - Power up your childs vocabulary
Reading is one of the best ways to boost your child's confidence and vocabulary. "I love the Book Trust, and this is a great guide to help you choose the top books based on age," says Head of English, Mrs Pryce. The Book Trust's list of the 100 best books for children from the last 100 years is the ultimate booklist to read before you're 14.
In 2021, a team of experts put together this list, broken down into four age bands. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this list - which is your favourite book? Comment below to let us know!

Top Tip from our Head of Maths, Mrs White
Why not turn times tables into a game! Fun activities like quickfire quizzes, songs, or multiplication bingo can help make learning more engaging. Incorporate real-life examples, like counting objects or sharing food, to show practical uses. Repetition is key, so practice little and often, celebrating progress with praise or rewards to keep motivation high!
