Exam season 2024 is complete! Good luck to all of our students in their final English exam tomorrow. Thank you so much for all of the lovely cards and gifts X
Parents and carers.... please do not keep issues such as SEN or mental health difficulties from tutors. We cannot read a situation intricately when information like this is hidden from us.
Any abuse, physical or verbal, from parents or students, will result in instant termination of lessons and will not be tolerated. Suzanne.
Saddened to have to write this...
Dear Parents,
Please don't walk into your child's lesson with me and shout and swear at them on a regular basis. It's heartbreaking to see, and totally derails my lesson, let alone what it does to your child's self esteem.
Please do not continue to swear at your child in my presence when I ask child and parents to attend a meeting.
Please do not withhold vital information from me regarding SEN, then blame me for an easily avoidable situation. If you don't tell me vital facts, that's down to you, not me.
Please treat me with the respect that I deserve. I work 50 hour weeks, every week, and produce exceptional results against the odds.
Yours,
An incredibly hurt SEN tutor.

She and her travelling friend are supporting a charity called Lady Pink Box Project, who collect sanitary towels and tampons to distribute to those in need on the island. If anyone would like to make donations, either in products or vouchers/money for Suzanne to go and buy them, please let her know. Photos of the donations being handed over to the Bajan community will be shown as proof of donation
We are delighted to say that every one of our GCSE students have gained the grades to go on to their Higher Ed course of choice. Extremely proud of them.
Every single one of our A Level students are through with the grades they needed for their first choice uni. Huge congratulations to them all.
This is something that I absolutely live by when I'm tutoring...

Beautiful words from Mummy's Gin Fund
I couldn't have said it any better myself.
Teaching for the next few days about this. We are currently stuck in the deficit biomedical model, but we can all work together towards validating and humanising support after abuse and trauma.
It doesn’t have to be like this.

This feels rather appropriate after losing a student last week. Mental health comes before anything else, every single time. You can sit an exam a year later. It takes a lot longer than that to pull your mental health back.
If anyone reading this is struggling, you can always message, text or call, whatever the time. No judgement, just compassion.
Please share far and wide to help find this little girl.
Very late last night I was contacted by a students family to say that one of my students died yesterday, by taking their own life.
The family involved have asked me to say a few words about mental health.
Exams can be deferred or re sat. Uni degrees can be taken after a gap year, or part time. It takes an awful lot longer to rebuild mental health than it does to re sit an exam.
Every single family that I work with know that I'm a huge advocate for having some downtime and a release away from academic pressures. One of my first questions to students is always "what do you enjoy doing when you're not studying? ".
The last 12 months have put extraordinary pressure on students and teaching staff alike. I can certainly feel how mentally and physically tired I am.
I am the busiest I've ever been with students worrying about how online learning has impacted on their results. I am talking to my students about mental health more than I've ever done before.
The student involved had Autism. I've heard so many people say that they are nervous about Covid restrictions being relaxed and a change to the routine that we've had to adapt to over the last year. Someone with Autism has to cope with that feeling on a daily basis if their own routine is changed, however small that change may appear to others.
Rarely can we see what is going on inside just by peeking over the edge.
All of the above is at the request of, and with permission from, the family involved.
On a personal note, Student A, I taught you 3 times a week for almost 2 years. You were fiercely intelligent, passionate about educating others regarding Autism, sarcastic, blunt, feisty, frustrating, complex, brutally honest, and above all, an absolutely privellege to teach.
I'm sitting here in tears trying to understand how we've got to this point.
To all of the families that I work with, my phone is always on, my door is always open. There will be zero judgement, just compassion and patience.
Fly high my dear Student A. Be at peace now. We will look after your family.
Suzanne Xx
We couldn't agree more!
Such an important message. Thanks to https://penniebrownlee.weebly.com/ for this.
This is so very true. Cause and effect.
Oh so true
If I had a pound for every time I heard this....
Brilliant response!
(PS, what exactly is Autism meant to ‘look’ like?!!!)
Back in October we were asked to help a student re taking his GCSE English exam after originally getting a 3 last year. Suzanne did 8 hours of tuition with him, and we've just heard that the student got a well deserved 6!!
