Pj's Childcare

Today we had Christmas lunch. The children tried Brussel Sprouts and Christmas pudding.

We have been exploring ice. The children have poured water onto the large blue tray to see if it would become ice overnight. We looked at it this morning and found ice - which was cold to touch. The children have added flower petals to the ice and more water.

Next week we will be finding out about dark nights. Please take your child for a walk in the dark and talk about how to keep safe by being seen.

This week we will be finding out about Autumn leaves. If you see any coloured leaves this weekend please collect a few and bring them into nursery.

The children have been collecting conkers and acorns in the garden. They have been talking about them and feeling the conker cases - very spiky! The children have been counting them.
They have begun to create their own acorns using collage materials.

Today the children made apple crumble and had it for pudding at lunch time.

The children have been painting with vegetables.

The children have dug up their potato crop. They washed the potatoes, peeled and chopped them and cooked them for lunch. The children had Shepherd's pie made with their potatoes.

We are finding out about caterpillars/butterflies. Our caterpillars have arrived and the children are observing them everyday. Last week the children created their own caterpillars.

Today we have been making jubilee cakes.

This week we will be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee.

The children have made red, blue and white bunting. We will be looking at pictures of the Queen from childhood. Please can you look at pictures of yourselves from childhood with your children.

This week we have been finding out about frogs.

The children have looked at a picture in our book 'Snail Trail' 'Number 20' by Jackson Po***ck and have created a snail with drips and drops.

This morning the children went on a snail hunt in the garden. The children found 12 snails. They looked at them using the magnifying glasses and the digital microscope.

We have been reading 'Snail Trail' by Jo Saxton. It's a story about a snail who slides through eight modern pictures, searching for his own 'snail portrait'.
The children used scissors to cut up coloured paper to create their own pictures of a snail.

Last week the children found snails in the garden. We are going to find out about snails.

Today we went for a walk to see the sheep and lambs.
The children have been creating 'blossom' for our nursery tree.

Yesterday the children planted some flower seeds. They choose which flower they wanted to grow.

We looked at the camera in our bird box and saw a Blue Tit in there starting to make a nest.

We have been learning about the colour yellow. The children have been painting, gluing and drawing using just yellow. We have looked at some monochrome pictures - some yellow, some blue and some black and white.

This week we have been looking at catkins and drawing them.

We went for a walk in the sunshine, exploring the large puddles and feeling the bark of the trees.

This week we have been finding out about Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Tiger.

The children have been tasting Chinese food, creating dragons and tigers and painting stripes.

We have been finding out about how to keep warm when we go outside.
We talk about what we need to put on when we go outside when we do days of the week.
The children have created their own winter hats using the collage materials and have been practicing putting on gloves.

We have been opening the doors on the Nursery Advent Calendar.

The children have been creating stars using paint and collage materials.
They have used tweezers to put bees into hexagons.

Please start to collect stamps for The Lullaby Trust - the children can bring them into nursery and post them into our collection.
