🎨 Creativity in progress at Farnham College!

Our talented UAL Art and Design students have been busy putting the finishing touches to their artwork ahead of their upcoming exhibition, ‘Self in the Making’, as part of Farnham Craft Month 2026.

From initial ideas to final pieces, students have been exploring their creativity and developing their work ready to share with the wider community.

We're looking forward to seeing their hard work on display at Brightwells Creative Space in Farnham, and we'd love you to come along and support them!

💚 This World Mental Health Day, every voice matters.

The theme for World Mental Health Day 2026 is ‘Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change’, highlighting the importance of listening to people’s experiences of mental health and ensuring their voices help shape the support available to them.

At Activate Learning, we want every student to feel heard, supported and able to access help when they need it.

Sometimes, one of the most important things we can do is simply make space for a conversation. Whether you’re sharing how you feel, checking in with someone else or taking the time to really listen, those conversations can make a difference.

Across our colleges, students can access a range of mental health and wellbeing support, including our Wellbeing Advisers, counselling, Student Support and Safeguarding teams.

💚 Today, we’re encouraging students to wear green to show their support for World Mental Health Day and get involved with wellbeing activities taking place on campus throughout the month.

🎨 What a fantastic start to Farnham Craft Town ’s month-long programme of activities!

Our students played a brilliant part in the launch event last weekend, helping young people get involved in a range of creative activities while gaining valuable experience working with the local community.

From demonstrating lantern-making for the Lantern Festival and creating artwork for The Big Draw, to making paper boats and colourful collaged paper bouquets, it was great to see our students sharing their creativity and encouraging others to get involved.

The month will culminate with our students showcasing their first half-term final outcomes in an exhibition at Brightwells Creative Space in Farnham town centre.

A fantastic opportunity for our students to be part of Farnham’s creative community from start to finish. Well done to everyone involved! 👏🎨

🎨 Exploring portraiture in the heart of London!

Farnham College Art students recently swapped the classroom for some of London’s most iconic galleries, spending the day exploring historical and contemporary portraiture. 🖼️

The day began at Tate Modern, where students and staff explored the main collections as well as the Frida Kahlo: Making of an Icon exhibition.

They then headed across the river to the National Portrait Gallery, where students had the opportunity to view and draw from its historic collection, before exploring the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award exhibition – and voting for their favourite portrait!

A brilliant day of creativity, inspiration and seeing art first-hand, with plenty for our students to take back into their own creative practice. ✏️✨

💬 What does community mean to you?

This year’s Black History Month theme, Honouring Our Communities, gives us an opportunity to recognise the people whose contributions strengthen the places where we live, learn and work.

Communities are shaped by people: the leaders, educators, creatives, families, colleagues, neighbours and role models who make a difference every day.

Throughout October, we’ll be celebrating those contributions and encouraging our students and colleagues to learn more about Black history, culture and experiences.

🎨 Farnham College student artwork on display at the Museum of Farnham!

We’re delighted to see the work of Grace Gormley, a second-year UAL Creative Practice student at Farnham College, selected for the Museum of Farnham’s Handmade in Farnham exhibition. 👏

Grace’s artwork is now on display alongside work from makers across the local area as part of an exhibition celebrating Farnham’s rich culture of craft, from textiles and pottery to printing, woodwork and more.

Running until 27 March 2027, the exhibition explores the stories behind the people and creativity that make Farnham’s craft community so distinctive.

A fantastic achievement for Grace and a brilliant opportunity to have her work showcased within the local community. Congratulations, Grace! 🌟

Our flexible, government-funded programmes include:

👩‍🏫 Teaching in Further Education – turn your industry experience into a new career in the classroom

🌿 Landscape Construction – develop practical, workplace-ready landscaping skills

💙 Teaching Assistant – Supporting SEND – build the skills and confidence to support learners with additional needs

⚽ What an opportunity for our Sport students at Farnham College!

Last week, our first-year Level 3 Sport students had the fantastic opportunity to be coached by former Premier League goalkeeper and Bosnia and Herzegovina international, Asmir Begović.

Asmir joined the students as part of his preparations for his UEFA A Licence coaching qualification, putting them through their paces and working with them on sports analysis.

It was a brilliant opportunity for our students to learn from someone with a wealth of experience at the highest level of the game – and there was even time for a few photos afterwards! 📸⚽

💙 This October, we’re proud to welcome our friends and partners at Charlie's Promise to Merrist Wood College for a very special weekend of running, walking and community fundraising.

🏃Taking place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, the 21 for 21 Charity Run will mark what would have been Charlie's 21st birthday and aims to raise £21,000 in his memory.

Charlie’s Promise is an organisation that Activate Learning is proud to work closely with, helping to educate young people about the devastating impact of knife crime. We’re delighted to be able to support their work by hosting this important event within the grounds of our Merrist Wood campus.

👟 There’s a distance for everyone:

• 2.1km Family Fun Run
• 5km Charity Run
• 10km Charity Run
• 21km Walk & Run

Whether you run, walk or simply come along to cheer everyone on, you’ll be helping Charlie’s Promise continue its vital work with young people, schools and communities across the UK. There’ll also be food, refreshments and music throughout the weekend, so supporters are very welcome too.

With free parking available on site, it couldn’t be easier to get involved, show your support and help raise vital funds for a cause that is close to our hearts at Activate Learning.
