CHRISTMAS, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE AND THE FORGOTTEN GENIUS OF FRANK CAPRA by Colin Shindler.
The lecture considers the films of one of America’s greatest film makers within the historical context of Jeffersonian democracy. Although Capra’s films were mostly set in his contemporary America, the lecture looks at the reasons why that rural idyll, so foreign to the growth of a modern urban country, resonated so powerfully with audiences during the Great Depression.

Illustrated with photographs and music examples, Catherine explores how jazz emerged in the early 20th century and answers questions such as 'who invented jazz?' and 'where does the word 'jazz' come from?' Then she focuses on the origins of jazz in Britain, showing how it evolved in. response to the particular musical and cultural circumstances of the time.

Our Arts Volunteering Young Arts have been busy working with school children making lanterns for the upcoming Lantern festival in Farnham on 31st October 2024 organised as part of Farnham Town October Craft festival.

A PHOTOGRAPHIC ODYSSEY: SHACKLETON'S ENDURANCE
EXPEDITION CAPTURED ON CAMERA by Mark Cottle.
In 1914 Ernest Shackleton's ship, the Endurance, was crushed in the Antarctic pack ice. After camping for five months on the ice, Shackleton's men rowed to remote Elephant Island. From there, Shackleton sailed 800 miles to South Georgia and three months later returned to rescue his crew.
Frank Hurley was the expedition's official photographer. His incredible photographs are a visual narrative of that epic journey.
