18 years old an American boy became interested in the question of just why are atoms held a certain distance apart. How far apart are they when they are bonded together and what is it that holds them at this distance? What is the chemical bond between atoms? What are the structures of molecules?... Between 1925 to 1927, he studied with (fellowship) three great physicists: in Munich, in Zurich, and in Copenhagen. Later he became one of the founders of the fields of quantum chemistry and molecular biology. That American boy is our "scientist of the day" today.

(Scientist of the Day - 28 February)

In Europe in the late 1920s Pauling began using quantum mechanics - specifically Shrödinger’s wave equation - to understand more complex systems consisting of multiple nuclei and multiple electrons i.e. chemical compounds. He devised valence bond theory and gave chemistry its now everyday concepts of , orbital hybridization, and . These concepts are crucial in the teaching and understanding of how chemical compounds form and behave.

Pauling had no interest in the philosophical implications of quantum theory which fascinated Niels Bohr, , and many other European physicists. He took a much more .....

Our Story

Our Mission: “Saving Budding White Coats from Extinction!” Taught from our classroom in Farnborough, UK, or worldwide via Skype online, we are a small independent company making grades & career dream realities for budding white coat and scrub-clad students aged 11-18+ all over the globe. We are a recognised medical science entrance centre of excellence: UKCAT/BMAT/IMAT/UCAT, for want-to-be medics, dentists & veterinary surgeons worldwide, with average UKCAT scores in the 80th percentile and above.

Currently rated 5* on facebook, we serve families: locally based in Hampshire, Surrey, London & Berkshire, across the regional UK, international expats residing in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, and families on the move, residing between multiple countries throughout the year. Our furthest student is currently located in Brisbane!

We average a grade improvement in our pupils in just 4 hours of tuition at i/GCSE and 6 hours at AS-/A-level. Many of our students going on to make it into even the most challenging Degree courses such as Medicine, when they’ve been long told to give up! We have a huge shortage of medics, nurses, scientists and engineers in the UK now, and we are losing these great-mind sets, often in the name of box-ticking and league table positions.

Students of all grades are welcome, as well as pupils with SEN such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and ADHD etc. I recently attended the TES SEN show in London and we are integrating many ideas from seminars, guides and books into our tuition to help SEN students fair better. For example, one of our most severely affected dyslexia students has just made it into Medicine at Queen Mary University in London.
