If you have been missing our Forest School Under 5's sessions, Julie is starting a session at Twesledown Infant School in Mondays at 10:30 (where she delivers Forest School for the pupils).
Although this isn't in the lovely Birchbrook Nature Reserve, at Cove it will still have the same fun and activities.
Bookings can be made by phone to the school up until 9:30am and there are a few (limited) spaces available for Mon 30th September.

We have had 3 amazing summer sessions in the sun in Birchbrook Nature Reserve so far!
The children have been brilliant - playing with people they haven't met before; exploring; cooking over a fire; creating with natural resources; swinging; digging; trying new things and relishing the space and time in nature.
There has been a hive of activity but also a calm and content atmosphere. This must be good for their wellbeing!
Last session of the week tomorrow and it is sold out as so many children gave decided to come back for another session!

What a beautiful evening to be back at Birchbrook Nature Reserve.
We hosted 2nd Cove Sea Scouts to help them work towards their nature badge.
One challenge was to use a map of the site to locate specific wildflowers and plants - this definitely tested their map reading skills at the same time as identifying plants.
Artistic master pieces were created with the Hapazome technique of using mallets to bash leaves and wildflowers (which they only picked if there was a plethora).
Dennis and Daniel from Spaces for Growing joined us to help the children make wildflower seedbombs, which the Cubs then enjoyed scattering in a council approved area on the edge of the woodland by Blunden Hall.
A highlight was using the muddy, clay mixture to face paint!
They even made and tasted cleaver (sticky w**d) tea!

"We Will Remember Them".
With the Year 2 children at Tweseldown Infant School today, Julie invited them to make poppies for remembrance.
Having painted an outline with mud paint, the children foraged natural resources to fill the shape.
Other children chose to use the bow saw, stumpy hammers and nails to make a cross.
At the end of the sessions, the children gathered around the poppies and listened to Julie read two age appropriate Rememberance poems.

Julie was at Twesledown Infant School today, delivering their Forest School sessions.
For the first time ever she choose to relocate" the sessions inside, due Amber Alert for High winds (as per her wind policy).
This didn't stop fun, tool work and learning happening!
Weather was discussed. Fine motor and hand to eye co-ordination developed and practised. Comparisons between different Autumn "treasures" (enhanced by playing "Kims game - a memory game). Colour mixing and observational drawing skills were used too!

The children at Tweseldown Infant School learnt how to make conker handsoap today with Julie.
Through this activity the learning they were exposed to was:
🌳 the difference between horse and sweet chestnuts.
🌳 that we can use things from nature to make household products. These are more environmentally friendly; kinder to our skin and cheaper!
🌳how to use a mallet safely to crush things.
🌳which in turn helps their hand eye co-ordination and strength.
🌳safety around hot water (discussing the risk and how to reduce this).
🌳that lemons are a natural antibacterial (and what this means).
🌳that we measure liquid on millilitres.
🌳that 500ml is half a litre.
🌳what a sieve is and how we can use it to seperate mixtures.
Wow!
