Maths is such an important part of our lives - I am biased obviously! It’s my profession.
Maths is everywhere- for example
is used
-in our shopping choices
- our mortgage choices
- utilities choices.
-The Financial World (uses percentages, ratios, compound interest and lots of sophisticated Statistical models),
-in the house we use ratios etc in Cooking, painting etc
Reasoning informs our Decision Making. (What is the best career for us, best house to buy, best partner! Etc)
-Games such as chess etc use mathematical reasoning.
is fundamental to how we live:
- Hairdressers (use non-Euclidean Geometry),
-Dress makers (use Curvature etc),
- Builders (need to know what’s a right angle),
- designers and horticulturists need may use circle geometry and spatial awareness as well as ratio and proportion,
-Artists use perspective, scales and ratios etc.
-NASA and space exploration use circle geometry.
-Forensic Scientists use circle geometry in for example blood spatter analysis.
Science uses so many facets of mathematics.
It maybe that some Pure Maths may not be used for many years - but we don’t know what will be used in the future. However, we do need mathematical research for the future development of our world.
Most of us use some of the above, but most important of all is maths develops our brains, our thinking, our problem solving.
