This week is National Storytelling Week, a lovely reminder of just how powerful stories and books are for children. 💛
Did you know?
1. Reading to children helps build strong language and communication skills from an early age.
2. Sharing stories supports imagination and creativity, helping children explore new ideas and worlds.
3. Regular storytime helps improve listening and attention skills.
4. Reading together supports emotional development, helping children understand feelings and relationships.
Storytelling ideas to try at home:
- Read together every day – even 5–10 minutes makes a big difference.
- Use toys or teddies to act out favourite stories.
- Change your voice for different characters (silly voices encouraged!).
- Let your child choose the book – rereading favourites is great for learning.
- Follow up stories with drawing, painting, or small-world play.
We are on Holiday at Happy Hearts this week, we will continue to share stories through books, play, library visits and more once we are back together!
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.
Collette 💛
