🥁 NEW BLOG 🥁

What an incredible experience being part of the Dumfries Drum Day.

I’ve written a new blog sharing some of the highlights from the event — including appearing alongside an amazing line-up of drummers and co-leading the education room with the brilliant Lesley McLaren

The feedback from the education room was genuinely heartwarming. Lesley’s and my shared experience, approach and passion seemed to connect beautifully with the players and fitted the spirit of the whole event perfectly.

A huge thank you to Bob Irving for creating such a fantastic day and for inviting us to be part of it.

Sad to hear this morning of the passing of Tam Rankin 😞

A lovely man who’s passion for drums was only equalled by his depth of knowledge.
Always there if you needed his help or advice and a big supporter both myself and dD Drums over many years.

The photos below are from a visit to the studio back in 2020 when he was, as we all were - “just glad to get out the house”
We had some fun on my big kit and and before he left donated a collection of drumsticks (pictured)
so I could give them away to any new start drummers embarking on their own drumming journey.

What a man
You’ll be missed my friend

“When the cat’s away, the mice will play…” 🎶🥁

I disappear to Berlin for a few days and i get this video of Ella in the studio absolutely owning I’m Every Woman - or as Ella puts it Every Wummin 😆

Love seeing her confidence behind the kit, and it’s always brilliant to see another female drummer having the time of her life. ❤️🥁

In a deviation from the normal broadcast I’ve got a few kits and odds and ends (snares, cymbals stands, cases etc) that I’m selling on.

Some are old shop stock items, some are personal items I no longer have a use for and some are refurbishment jobs I’ve eventually got around to finishing up.
Some items I’ve just not got round to listing yet! 😮‍💨

All are sensibly priced and I’m always open to an offer - not one that embarrasses both of us - so if there’s any interest just give me a shout.

Similarly if there’s something you’re looking for send a message as I might just have something that fits the bill!

Please don’t just ‘turn up’ if you’re ‘just passing’ but rather arrange a wee visit and I’ll happily let you demo any of this equipment.

As you were 👊🥁

Still thinking about this moment from Richard Spaven’s masterclass in Berlin.

A deceptively simple phrasing idea turned into an exploration of groove, creativity and musical possibility. The room was completely locked in as Richard demonstrated just how far one concept can go.

This is what is so great about these events—those moments when you can almost see the lightbulbs switching on around the room.
