π»π₯£ Goldilocks and the Three Bears
β Outdoor Adventure π₯£π»
At Little Angels, our Outdoor Adventures provide meaningful opportunities for children to learn through play, exploration and real-life experiences. We use our surrounding environment, outdoor spaces and the changing weather to support learning across the EYFS curriculum.
Last week, we brought the much-loved story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to life with a special story sequencing walk! ππΏ
The children followed a trail through our outdoor space, discovering key parts of the story along the way. They found three bears, three bowls of porridge, a broken chair and finally Goldilocks asleep in a bed! π»π₯£πͺποΈ
π£οΈ Communication & Language
The children were encouraged to listen attentively, recall familiar events and retell parts of the story as they moved along the trail. We introduced and reinforced vocabulary such as big, small, hot, cold, broken, asleep, porridge and bear. The children enjoyed talking about what they had found and predicting what might come next.
π Physical Development
Our outdoor adventure provided plenty of opportunities to develop gross motor skills, coordination, balance and spatial awareness as the children walked, explored and navigated the trail. We finished our adventure with a fun run back to nursery, just like Goldilocks running βall the way home!β πββοΈπ¨
π Literacy
Using a familiar story helped the children to develop an understanding of story structure, sequencing and recall. Finding the props in order supported the children in remembering what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story. We then settled on the field to enjoy the story together using our props, encouraging the children to join in with repeated phrases and familiar parts.
π Understanding the World
Being outdoors gave the children opportunities to explore and observe their environment, noticing the different spaces around us and using them as part of our learning. We talked about the characters, their homes and everyday objects within the story, while developing an understanding of how stories can connect with the world around us.
Our Outdoor Adventures allow children to learn in a hands-on, active and meaningful way β combining storytelling, physical activity, exploration and imagination. πΏππ»
What a fantastic adventure! β¨
