This is something we actively encourage with our students.
👍 Saying encouraging words out loud to yourself instead of always silently picking on the negatives is really effective way to build confidence quickly.
👍 saying what you are seeing and what your plan is really helps you to be more decisive and resulting smooth drive reduces anxiety and builds confidence.
👍 and as for those test day nerves - speaking out loud your planning/reasoning has two benefits - it stops your brain from silently spinning into panic mode and it helps the examiner understand your thought process. Sometimes that bit of out loud reasoning is enough to save the test outcome.

Fantastic result today for Erin, passing her practical driving test at the first attempt with just the one fault! This fabulous drive was the result of teamwork between Erin, her Mums help with lots of private practice time and lessons from instructor Pennie Hughes. Was she nervous and shocked to pass ? Absolutely !! Nerves are normal, but that much practice meant the standard of the drive was still high despite the nerves.

After failing a few tests before coming to Trident, Hugo passed his test today with only 2 faults. A few lessons and mock tests to fine tune a few things was all that was needed. Well done for all the hard work you’ve put in and to stay calm under the pressure of the test. Look forward to seeing you on the road 👍🏼
