Happy Friday everyone!

Due to the high demand, I will now be offering 1:1 tutoring sessions in Exmouth and the surrounding areas (i.e Budleigh, Woodbury, Lympstone etc) for a small fuel cost.

I am very flexible during the summer holidays, being available most days/times. Give your child a head-start in their Phonics, reading and writing before the academic year ahead!

Putting a face to the page 🙋🏼‍♀️

Hi! I'm Gemma and I am a fully qualified primary school teacher in Exeter. I live in Exmouth with my 8-month-old daughter, Betsy and husband of 5 years.
In my spare time, I enjoy baking, spending time with my family and taking beach walks with our dog, Gus. I am very creative and enjoy bringing my creativity into my lessons, making them fun and engaging for all children . I believe in the ethos whereby in order for children to learn, lessons must be fun and engaging. I have SEND experience and differentiate learning to cater for all children and dedicate my time learning how each individual child learns best and adapting my lessons to allow every child to succeed. I believe in celebrating the smallest achievements because where something may sometimes seem small for us, can be a massive achievement for your child, so let's celebrate that!
Fun fact, in 2017, I applied for the Great British Bake Off and out of 20,000 applicants, I got down to the final 50, just missing out on a chance of being on the show! 🍰🎥

Hello everyone!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Gemma, I am an experienced practitioner in education with over 10 years experience and 3 years experience as a fully qualified, grade 1 teacher. My expertise is in Early Years and KS1 (up to Y2), who has a passion for teaching children in a fun and engaging way; the very best way to learn and succeed!

What I am offering:

Does your child need extra support with their reading and writing? Perhaps they need a little confidence boost in their Phonic skills? Maybe your child would benefit from some 1:1 support to help prepare them for their Y1 Phonics Screening or Y2 SAT'S? Or is your child working at greater depth and needing an extra challenge in their learning?

I am offering 1:1 tutoring sessions in Phonics and Literacy/English for children who are in Reception- Year 2. My sessions will be fun, exciting and promote a love of learning with an overall goal to ensure your child reaches their overall potential in reading and writing. My sessions will be at your child's home; an environment where they feel comfortable and at ease. I can also offer 1:1 video sessions if this is preferable.

- Each face-to-face session will be 1 hour
- Video sessions will be a short, 30 minute Phonic session focusing on identifying phonemes, digraphs and trigraphs in Phase 2- Phase 5, practicing reading non-decodable words (tricky words- I call them alien words!) and writing
- During the first session, I will be assessing your child's current knowledge in Phonics/ reading/ writing in order to plan personalised sessions tailored to your child's needs
- A minimum of 5 sessions is advised to best support your child
- Resources will be provided (apart from reading books) and some home learning may be issued to help consolidate learning
- Tutoring will be provided to children who live in EXMOUTH ONLY
- Limited times/ sessions available
