No.73: Making use of a RRL sticking.
I wrote this beat down years ago then forgot about it. Then I found it last December, filmed it, but forgot about it again! I do quite like it though, and it’s fun to play! It came about just through experimenting with the RRL sticking that’s used at the start of the pattern. Even if you don’t fancy working out the entire thing, you could just take that first RRL lick and come up with all sorts of grooves yourself. Have a go 🙂

This fairly simple lick is played as 16th note triplets. The tricky part is playing pairs of notes across the triplets (if that’s new to you). There are loads of possible voicings for this lick, so experiment and make it your own.

No.71: “Cowbell Groove feat. 3 across 4”
The main feature of this groove, and the starting point when I constructed it, is the RRL sticking that is played between cowbell & hi-hats. This recurring three note pattern is played across 16th notes, up until the end of the second bar.
