We have the pleasure of announcing our fourth debate of the year: Addressing the necessity of global security as a regional organisation, with the study guide being found on our LinkTree!

NATO was originally established as a regional defence alliance to protect the security of its member states and the North Atlantic region. However NATO has increasingly become more involved in international security beyond its traditional region including through its interventions in Afghanistan and Libya. Subsequently, questions have begun to emerge over the extent to which NATO should itself in global security.

NATO must strive to consider whether it should take a greater role in addressing global security, whilst also attempting to encourage greater cooperation with other regional organisations. However, NATO’s founding treaty has placed limits on the organisation’s traditional role so representatives will have to consider the possibility of expanding NATO’s international involvement whilst maintaining consensus between its member states.

We’re excited to announce our first Crisis of the year, The Greco-Persian Multi-Cabinet Crisis!

The year is 481 BC. Xerxes, King of Kings, ruler of the Persian empire and the most powerful man in the world, has set his sights on Greece, a patchwork of quarreling city states on the outskirts of the known world. They have undermined the rule of the Persian emperor, supporting rebels against Persia and endangered the safety of its subjects. Xerxes has resolved to raise a mighty army to crush these rogue states.

But Greece is not idle. A ‘Hellenic League’ has been formed, uniting the various city states of Greece into a powerful alliance. In the mountain passes of northern and central Greece, and in the seas of the Aegean, they will wage an epic battlefortheir freedom.

Join us in Forum Seminar Room 10 on the 18th of October, from 9:45am-5pm.

We have the pleasure of announcing our third debate of the year: Addressing human trafficking and drug smuggling across the Mediterranean, with the study guide being found on our LinkTree!

Organised criminal networks have continued to exploit the Central Mediterranean Route to transport vulnerable people and drugs across borders. Human trafficking involves the exploitation of vulnerable individuals for profit, whilst drug smuggling provides criminal networks with access to markets across Europe. Subsequently, these issues are increasingly beginning to overlap.

The UNODC must strive to create a resolution which can address the expansion of these networks across the Mediterranean, whilst also attempting to encourage greater international cooperation. However, national sovereignty remains a significant barrier to cross-border enforcement, so delegates will have to consider the possibility for multilateralism whilst maintaining control over their own affairs.

We are thrilled to announce our second social of the year, Boozy Bowling! 🎳

Do you think you have what it takes to out-bowl your fellow delegates? Then join us on Thursday, 24th September to find out! We will be meeting at George’s Meeting House at 6:30pm, before heading over to Tenpin Exeter at 7pm to get the real fun started! 🥂
This is a ticketed event, so you will need to purchase a ticket in order to join us. Each ticket costs £11.80 (fees included) and will be available through Fixr, which can be found through the link in our profile. 🎟️

Please make sure to bring your student ID with you, as this is required by the venue. As always, there is absolutely no pressure to drink, and sober members of the committee will be present. If you would prefer to meet us directly at Tenpin at 8pm, please do let us know.

Meet the Committee: Welcome Mixer

Come join us at ExMUN’s first social of the year! ✨

We are thrilled to announce our Welcome Mixer, kicking off our social events for the 2026/27 academic year!

Come along to The Sunset Society on Saturday, 19th September, to enjoy a relaxed evening of conversation (and perhaps a drink or two!) with ExMUN committee members and other MUNners of all experience levels. This is the perfect way to round off Welcome Week on a chill note and, as always, there is absolutely no expectation or pressure to drink. 💙

We’ll also be running a walking bus from the Forum at 6:40pm! If you wish to join, please be punctual. Otherwise, we hope to see you at the venue at 7 pm.

As it is Freshers Week, we have the pleasure of announcing a second weekly debate: Tackling continued oil drilling, with the study guide being found here on the LinkTree!

Despite the progression of climate change, most nations are still dependent on oil for economic growth and stability. Oil drilling is a process of extraction from the earth’s core which provides this resource but has disastrous effects on the climate, ecosystems, animals, and Indigenous ways of life.

UNEP must strive to create a resolution which mitigates the environmental effects of both offshore and onshore drilling, whilst also attempting to deal with State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) which control large swathes of the industry and are notoriously difficult to deal with within the forum of the United Nations.

For the first time this year, it is 6pm on a Friday, meaning it is time to announce our first debate of the academic year, ‘The Issue of AI in education setting’, which can be found on the LinkTree!

Improving education has always been central to the mission of the United Nations, but severe gaps between developed and developing nations persist. New AI models can potentially close gaps in nations who face crises by improving access to education across rural areas and areas facing teaching shortages.

However, there are significant concerns over the ethical use of AI in education, meaning it falls to UNESCO to decide how the committee should best move forwards to both develop and protect students in the face of evolving AI technologies.

Join us on Tuesday 15th of September from 6:30pm-9pm, in Bateman Lecture Theatre, to discuss how to resolve this issue.
