University of Worcester Archaeology Society welcomes students from all courses who have an interest in archaeology and who wish to meet like minded people

11/09/2021

Alice Roberts, Professor of Public Engagement in Science at the University of Birmingham, speaks out about the closure of the course at Worcester:

“I am very sad to see another university archaeology department threatened with closure.

Archaeology is a brilliant degree which bridges the arts and humanities and provides students with a long-term perspective on so many of the challenges facing humanity today, from human responses to climate change and disease to the very nature of our societies.

Our tertiary education system is impoverished without it.”

Thank you, Alice.

To help us , please keep signing and sharing the petition. We need just over 1,300 signatures to reach our goal of 10,000 before it is presented to the University's Executive Board.

WORCESTER STUDENTS ASK WHERE IS THEIR UNIVERSITY’S DUTY OF CARE? | thePipeLine 02/09/2021

The decision to close the archaeology course at Worcester doesn't just mean there won't be future opportunities for studying, it's also having a huge impact on the mental and physical health of current students and staff.

Please keep signing the petition to help us force the University to reconsider their decision!

Hi, I’m Merrin and I’m going into my third year. My role as inclusivity rep, as part of the archaeology society, includes trying my best to make sure it is a fun and enjoyable experience for all. As well as making sure everyone feels included and welcomed.

One of my favourite archaeological sites is Mycenae as I really enjoy learning about the Aegean Bronze Age.

Hope to meet you all soon and please don’t hesitate to get in touch! 😊 @ Worcester Students' Union

My favourite archaeological site would have to be Grimes Graves in Norfolk. It’s not only local to me but is the place that started my interest in prehistory. @ Worcester Students' Union

My Name is Jordan Morris, I am in third year and my role is Chair of the society. My aim for this year is to make the society more inclusive through events that will suite a range of different interests and abilities. This could include more hands on events like pottery making. I also hope to create links with other societies for a joint led approach. For example, hold events surrounding subjects like the heritage of their society topic.

My favourite archaeological site has to be that of herculaneum in Italy as here was where I found my love and interest for archaeology.

Hello everybody! We’re making a little request today. The archaeology society has made a survey so we can get a better understanding of what people would like from the society in the coming academic year. You don’t need to have been a member before to fill it in, and it only takes 2-3 minutes to complete. Any replies greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time. Here’s to making 2020-2021 the best yet!
