☕🍫🍌 Who gets paid for the products we love?

When we buy a coffee, enjoy a chocolate bar or eat a banana, it’s easy to forget about the people who produced them.

But behind the products on our shelves are millions of farmers and workers whose livelihoods depend on global supply chains.

And too often, the people taking the greatest risks receive the smallest share of the value.

For example:
☕ Many coffee farmers live on as little as £1.37 a day.
🍫 Some cocoa farmers earn less than £1 a day.
🍵 More than 70% of tea workers say wages and income are their biggest challenge.

Fairtrade works to help farmers and workers secure fairer pay and build more secure livelihoods.

💚 The people behind our favourite products deserve a fair deal.

This Fairtrade Fortnight, look for the Fairtrade mark and help put fairness into your everyday choices.

An event that may be of interest to our followers at Cygnet Theatre on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October.

Did you know that world-famous abolitionist and escaped slave Frederick Douglass visited Exeter in 1846?

His visit, and Exeter’s wider role in the fight against slavery, are at the heart of The Ocean Can Be a Bridge, a new full-length play coming to the Cygnet Theatre on 1 and 2 October.

The play grew out of a four-year project exploring a fascinating and often overlooked part of Exeter’s history, working with local Caribbean and refugee communities.

Everyone deserves access to information they can trust.

Information helps us understand the world, make decisions, participate in our communities and hold those in power to account.

But access isn't equal.

🌍 People can face barriers because of poverty, disability, language, location, technology or limited access to education.

And in a world filled with misinformation, being able to find, understand and critically assess information has never been more important.

We all need enough money to live well to feed our families, keep a roof over our heads, access healthcare and education, and plan for the future.

🌍☕ Celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight 2026 with Fairtrade Devon & the South West! ☕🌍

Join us for a special Fairtrade Conference exploring the lives and experiences of Fairtrade producers, with a particular focus on coffee-growing communities in Nicaragua.

🎤 Guest speaker: Yesenia Maria Palacios Lumbi, a Fairtrade coffee grower and member of SOPPEXCCA, the union of Fairtrade co-operatives in Nicaragua, Central America. Yesenia is visiting the UK as a guest of Bristol Fairtrade and Bristol Link with Nicaragua (BLINC).

Plus: An introduction to Nicaragua by Lila Alvarado and discussions led by Elena Fernandez-Lee, Fairtrade Foundation Schools & Universities Manager.
