DDE is part of many Development Education Centres in the UK, working with children and young people in schools, colleges and within the community.
The Global Centre is home to Devon Development Education which promotes global learning for pupils, teachers and schools through a variety of projects, programmes and training. DDE and the Global Centre work with people of all ages, from all parts of Devon, Plymouth and Torbay and from all different backgrounds to increase global understanding, positive change, justice and sustainability.

Remembering Hiroshima, Nagasaki and the Cost of Nuclear War
This August marks three significant dates in the closing days of the Second World War:
🕊️ 6 August 1945 – The United States dropped the Little Boy atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
🕊️ 9 August 1945 – The United States dropped the Fat Man atomic bomb on Nagasaki.
🕊️ 15 August 1945 – Japan announced its intention to surrender, leading to Victory over Japan (VJ) Day and the end of the war in Asia.
These events changed history forever. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed or suffered long-term effects from the bombings, while the attacks continue to raise profound ethical, humanitarian and political questions.
As we remember those affected, we are reminded of the importance of working towards peace, nuclear disarmament, and a world where conflicts are resolved without devastating human cost.
