Harvest Festival at The Bungalow 🍂

Autumn is finally here, and we’ve been celebrating the season with lots of harvest-themed fun at The Bungalow!

The children have been exploring a variety of fruits and vegetables, talking about which ones they like and dislike, comparing which are bigger or smaller, and discovering whether they feel hard or soft.

They had lots of fun practising their chopping skills, counting how many pieces they could cut their fruit and vegetables into, as well as exploring different colours and shapes.

We also experimented with colour mixing during our autumn-themed finger painting, creating some beautiful artwork along the way.

The children enjoyed sorting the food into different categories and telling us which foods they had tried before and which were new to them.

We’ve also been enjoying some harvest songs during circle time, including I’m a Di**le Dangle Scarecrow and Cauliflower Fluffy.

🏡Try at home: Why not explore some autumn fruits and vegetables together? Talk about their colours, shapes and textures, and see if your little one can sort them into groups. You could even make some autumn artwork using the colours you find!

Explore Together: Leaf Suncatcher 🍂

Autumn leaves come in so many colours, shapes and patterns — perfect for a simple suncatcher.

Collect a few favourites on your next walk, then bring them home to create something you can hang by the window. As the daylight changes, take another look together and see which colours and details catch your eye.

A lovely way to give new life to the treasures you find along the way.

Hello, autumn. 🍂

A new season brings so much for your child to notice. Leaves beginning to change, cooler mornings, crunchy walks, conkers appearing under the trees and darker evenings drawing in.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing simple ways to make the most of the season together, using everyday and natural materials to explore, create and discover.

🧪 Experimenting at The Bungalow!

There’s been lots of experimenting happening in The Studio and Atelier, and the children have loved getting involved!

From investigating what might happen to watching the results unfold, there’s been plenty of excitement as the children explored, experimented and shared the experience together.

Sometimes the best part of an experiment is simply waiting to see what happens next! 🔍

Emergency services role play at The Bungalow🩺

This week in the Atelier, we transformed our home corner into a busy doctor’s surgery, complete with our very own A&E department, to celebrate First Aid Awareness Day at the weekend!

The children loved getting involved in our doctors, nurses and paramedic role play. There was lots of fantastic acting as patients were admitted to A&E – some even brought along their comforters for their stay!

We explored X-rays and created a stitching station, where the children carefully threaded cotton through holes to make their own ‘stitches’, helping to develop their fine motor skills.

At our germ station, the children used cotton buds and water to remove the ‘germs’, helping them understand why washing our hands is so important.

The children also created their own colourful first aid boxes and made badges for their different roles. There was certainly lots happening in our emergency department!

It was wonderful to see the children using their imaginations, building confidence and developing their communication skills through such engaging role play.

The first few weeks of nursery can look different for every child.

Some head straight through the door ready to explore. Others need a little more reassurance. And even children who seemed completely settled at first can have days when saying goodbye suddenly feels harder.

That's all part of getting used to something new.

During these early weeks, familiar routines, consistent faces and plenty of communication between home and nursery all help children gradually find their feet.

And remember: settling isn't always a straight line. One difficult morning doesn't undo all the progress that came before it.

💡 Parent tip: Let your child's key person know about anything that might have affected their morning; a restless night, a change in routine, anything at all. Those small details help us understand what they might need from us that day.

From The Bungalow 💛

It's been a busy few weeks at The Bungalow, with new beginnings, exciting transitions and plenty of messy play!

In our Nest, we've been supporting the children as some begin preparing for their move into the Atelier Room. We've been encouraging them to do more for themselves, while creating lots of opportunities for communication throughout the day. It's been wonderful to hear new words emerging and some of our children beginning to put simple sentences together.

And, of course, life in the Nest wouldn't be complete without a little mess! The children have loved getting stuck into sensory play and exploring all sorts of different textures. Hands aren't always enough, and aprons don't always stay on for long, so things can get rather messy, but that's all part of the fun!

We've also been delighted to welcome lots of new children to The Bungalow, with even more joining us next week. We're looking forward to helping everyone settle in, getting to know our new families and seeing lots of new friendships begin to form.

Finally, as our school leavers begin their next adventure, everyone at The Bungalow would like to wish them the very best as they start school. We are so proud of you all and hope you have the most wonderful time. We'll be thinking of you as you take this exciting next step! 🎒

iStep into School 🌟

School readiness looks different for every child. Some children will feel excited, others may need a little more reassurance, and both are completely normal. Every child develops at their own pace.

A few gentle ways to support the transition include:
• Remembering that every child settles differently.
• Practising short separations where appropriate.
• Keeping goodbyes positive and reassuring.
• Talking positively about starting school.
• Celebrating the things your child can already do.

Starting school is a big milestone for the whole family, and it's perfectly normal for parents to feel emotional too. Because school readiness isn't about reaching a finish line, it's about taking the next step with confidence.

Pirate day at The Farm 🏴‍☠️

The Pre-School children had a fantastic time stepping into the world of pirates for the day!

We made our very own treasure maps and eye patches before setting off on an exciting treasure hunt.
The children followed their maps, searched high and low and worked together to find the hidden treasure.

We also had lots of fun exploring our new pirate ship and even learnt a new pirate song to sing along to!

A fun-filled day of imaginative play, teamwork and adventure! ⚓️

From our Nest Room at The Bungalow 🐛

The children in the Nest have been exploring The Very Hungry Caterpillar in lots of different ways!

We have been using pasta to feed our caterpillar, learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar and exploring colours and different foods from the story.

We have also been using playdough to strengthen our little hands and fingers through squeezing, pulling and rolling.

The children even made their very own cupcakes using oats! They practised scooping and pouring as they mixed in different colours and carefully filled their cupcake cases.

These activities have been a wonderful way to develop fine motor skills, coordination and early independence, all while having lots of fun!
