If things didn’t go as you hoped, you’re not alone and support is available.

It can really help to talk things through. You can speak with your Pastoral Mentor, a member of staff, or someone you trust such as a friend or family member. Remember, your results do not define your ability, or the effort you have put into your studies. What matters most is your wellbeing.

If you’re planning to head to the water for some fun, the RNLI has advice on how you can stay safe and keep others safe while enjoying our beautiful coasts and waterways.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Go with others and look out for each other.

📱 Make sure your phone is charged so you can call for help if you or someone else needs it. In an emergency dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.

🏊 Only swim where you feel safe. Often that’s a life guarded beach where you can swim between the red and yellow flags.

🍺 Don’t go in the water after drinking alcohol as it’s dangerous. And if you’ve been drinking, keep away from the water’s edge – lots of incidents involve people who weren’t planning to go in
🥶Remember it might be hot but the water (both sea and rivers) in the UK is cold! This can impact your ability to swim. The RNLI
website has information on cold water shock and how to 'float to live'.

🏖️ Check the tide times and heights so you don’t get cut off whilst exploring.

🌊 Learn to understand waves and currents and if the sea conditions are rough - enjoy them from a respectful distance.

🔥 No open fires on the beaches – try finding a space where BBQs are permitted instead, don’t leave it unattended and dispose of it properly.

👣Bin your litter and leave only footprints.
