This is Kevin. 🎹

Kevin first started music lessons with me when he was in Year 1, joining a group musicianship class I used to run when he was just 6 years old.

From there, he went on to learn the violin, achieving Grade 4, before deciding to take up the piano. Last week, all of his hard work paid off when he passed his Grade 8 Piano with Merit – an incredible achievement.

Kevin is now 16, has just finished his GCSEs and will be starting his A-levels in September. Today he came for his lesson and told me he’d like to work towards his ARSM Diploma.

That was truly music to my ears.

One of the greatest joys of being a music teacher is seeing pupils develop a genuine love for music that goes beyond exams. Grade 8 isn’t the end of the journey – for many musicians, it’s just the beginning. I can’t wait to start exploring diploma repertoire with Kevin and to see where this next chapter takes him.

I’m incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved over the last 10 years, Kevin. Here’s to the next challenge!

Another goodbye this evening, and these are never easy.
Tonight was Isobel’s last flute lesson. She first came to me in June 2017 when she was just 9 years old, and now she’s 18! It’s incredible how quickly the years have gone.
I’ve had the privilege of watching her grow from a young primary school pupil through secondary school and college, all while developing into a lovely flautist and getting up to Grade 6.
It’s been such a pleasure to be part of your musical journey, Isobel, and I’ll miss seeing you each week. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and the memories over the last nine years.

Wishing you every success and happiness in whatever the future holds. And I hope your flute doesn’t stay in its case for too long - make sure you pick it up every now and again! 🎶💕

Saying goodbye to students is one of the hardest parts of my job. ❤️

Yesterday was Rachel’s last piano lesson with me as she prepares to take her Grade 8 piano exam tomorrow.

Rachel first came to me for piano lessons when she was just 5 years old. She is now 17. Over the past 12 years I’ve had the privilege of watching her grow from a little girl into a confident, kind and talented young lady.

Along the way she also took up the flute, passing her Grade 8 exam a year or so ago, which was another fantastic achievement. She has now decided to focus on her second year of A-levels, so the time has come to finish her piano lessons.

Twelve years is a long time to see someone every single week. Students become such a big part of your life, so saying goodbye is never easy. I am going to miss Rachel very much, but I couldn’t be prouder of everything she has achieved and the wonderful person she has become.

Rachel, thank you for letting me be part of your musical journey. It has been an absolute pleasure to teach you, and I know you have a bright future ahead of you, whatever you choose to do.

A huge congratulations to Georgia for passing her Grade 6 Singing exam with Distinction, and to Kevin and Viola for passing their Grade 8 Piano exams with Merit. I couldn’t be prouder of all three of you! 🎉🎶

One of my favourite things is watching students begin working towards the higher grades. The music becomes more challenging, the practice becomes more focused, and little by little you see them bring each piece to life. Their understanding and appreciation of music deepens as they discover the story behind the notes and breathe life into what the composer created.

Seeing that transformation is one of the greatest rewards of teaching.

Many people think Grade 8 is the finish line… but for me, it’s where the real journey begins. There is an incredible world of repertoire waiting to be explored, with so much beautiful music still to discover.

Well done, Georgia, Kevin and Viola. Your hard work, dedication and perseverance have paid off, and I can’t wait to see where your musical journeys take you next. 🎹🎤❤️

Laura Morris recently held a special musical concert to raise funds for her upcoming Snowdon at Night challenge for FORCE.

The afternoon was made even more meaningful as the performances came from her own students — including her youngest, who bravely performed his very first solo in front of an audience of students and parents.

We love to see all the different ways that our supporters raise funds to meet minimum fundraising for challenges!

Thanks to everyone’s support, an incredible £857 was raised 💙
