Embracing Creativity ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸซŸ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

Our Inventors and Adventurers dived into various avenues of creativity.

The Inventors engaged their bodies, using their feet and hands to craft unique pieces of art. They experimented with an array of materials such as spray bottles, rollers, cotton balls, paintbrushes, and balls, thoroughly enjoying each method they explored.

Meanwhile, the Adventurers tapped into their imagination by using their fingers and cotton buds, as well as paintbrushes, to create vibrant designs on cling film. They even discovered an exciting technique by drawing underneath the table instead of on top, which they found such fun. What a wonderful way to explore different ways to be creative. ๐Ÿ˜€

The Retreat and Explorer children engaged in a range of ball activities, pushing, throwing and kicking while facing some obstacles.

What are the benefits of ball games?
Playing with balls is a fantastic foundational activity for babies. It develops hand-eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, and visual tracking. Rolling and passing balls also build spatial awareness, teach cause and effect, and encourage early social and communication skills through interactive, back-and-forth play. ๐Ÿ˜€

The Adventurers save the day!

The children discovered how to keep our oceans clean and why itโ€™s important for the safety of sea creatures. They enjoyed reading stories about this topic and then took part in an exciting tuff tray activity, where they rescued their own toy animals from rubbish and cleaned up the mess. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Discovery Graduation 2026

This was our largest graduation to date, with nearly every child beginning their journey in our Retreat room and continuing all the way to the Inventors. It has been wonderful to witness their growth and development over the past four years. We wish you all the best as you embark on your new school adventures. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thatโ€™s not myโ€ฆโ€ฆ.

Our little explorers thoroughly enjoy the โ€œThatโ€™s Not Myโ€ books. During their activities, they not only engaged with the stories and props but also discovered a variety of textures. They painted with different materials and explored an array of textiles. There was a wealth of vocabulary being used to describe these textures, such as smooth, rough, spiky, shiny, bumpy, and many others. ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฒ

We are going on a bear hunt ๐Ÿป

The Adventurers children actively participated in the bear hunt story while listening to it being read to them. They joined in by repeating key phrases from the story, such as "we can't go over it" and "we can't go under it." Throughout the experience, they encountered a variety of textures, including swishy swashy grass, oozy mud, splishy splashy rivers, and even stumbled through the forest. Additionally, they discovered different letters along the way and made the corresponding sounds as they found them. ๐Ÿ˜€

This month at Discovery, we are focusing on the theme of music and creativity. The children in both the Retreat and Explorer groups have taken part in various engaging activities. The Retreat children enjoyed exploring the sound garden, where they experimented with a variety of instruments and equipment. They had fun making different sounds using the big garden drum, xylophone, and even pots and pans, using sticks or their hands. Meanwhile, the Explorers engaged in a range of creative activities in their creative corner. They painted colourful art on the painting wall with brushes and their hands, used various materials to collage, crafted sculptures with playdough, and created beautiful masterpieces with watercolours. ๐Ÿ˜€

This week, both the Adventurers and Inventors groups took part in a discussion about emotions and how they affect us. The children showcased their understanding by using facial expressions to illustrate feelings such as anger, happiness, sadness, worry, and shock. They shared experiences that trigger these emotions, like feeling upset when a toy is taken or feeling happy when reading stories together. Some children expressed worries about the dark. It was wonderful to see them engaging in conversations about how to cope with various feelings. To support this learning, the children used props, puppets, and stories during the activity. It was a great experience for everyone! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜ฎโ˜น๏ธ

The Inventors explored ways to take care of our planet. They removed litter from the โ€œseaโ€ to protect wildlife, repurposed discarded items to craft their own masterpieces, and sorted through rubbish for recycling, determining whether the materials were paper, plastic, or metal. Well done, Inventors!
