👂PHONOLOGICAL AWARENESS👂
You can help develop your child’s speech sounds by working on their phonological awareness. This just means their awareness of sounds. You can do this by:

👏 Syllable clapping: practice clapping out the syllables or beats in words. Clap out names, animals, days of the week, e.g. Fri-day (2 claps). Any word will do. Talk about how many claps there are.

🎵 Rhyming: Say two words and ask your child if they sound the same or different (do they rhyme or not). You could make this game fun by having some objects or pictures in a bag/box – take turns to pull two out and say whether they are the same or different. Singing nursery rhymes together is a great way to get talking about rhyming words.

🛍 Sound bags: Pick a sound e.g. ‘ssssss’ and fill a bag with pictures/objects that start with that sound. Sit down together with the bag and pull the objects/pictures out one by one, labelling them and emphasising the beginning sound each time e.g. “scissors - that starts with sssss”
