On Thursday, year 5 walked to the quay to visit the Customs House. It was a lovely walk and luckily the weather stayed nice all day. The children had the opportunity to draw the customs house and to explore the inside, completing a quiz and watching a video about the history of Exeter. On the way back, they enjoyed a quick stop off at the park before returning to school. Well done year 5 for representing Wynstream so well.
“I got to see rusty tools and the canons as well as a Lego building of the Customs House as it was in the olden days. We saw the king’s pipe then we ate our lunches on the benches and watched the swans.” Isobel

Year 5 School Trip to Backswood Farm. On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, the year 5 classes went on a trip to Backswood Farm near Bickleigh. With only a few occasional showers, the children had a brilliant time exploring the farm.
They walked around the nature gardens, learning about: bees, vegetables which we can grow, bug hotels, how the lifecycle of plants works, looking in the ponds, finding out about the crops grown on UK farms. They also explored the woodland areas and someone even found a lizard! The children loved getting close to the sheep and cows too!
In the words of Jessie, Year 5, "I loved looking at the sheep because we managed to get really close to them. I also liked sitting on hay bales and looking at the difference between hay and straw.”

The Department for Education has confirmed that all schools and colleges will close on Monday 19th September for a bank holiday to mark Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral. Wynstream Primary School will be closed on 19th September, with children returning on Tuesday 20th September. Thankyou.
Wynstream Primary School and Education South West, join with everyone in the United Kingdom, and around the world, who are mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Earlier this year, we observed her Platinum Jubilee which marked her 70th year as Queen, the longest reign of any British monarch. Her commitment and dedication to her country and people was acknowledged worldwide.
We end with two quotes, first from a 14-year-old Princess Elizabeth, from her broadcast to the children of the Commonwealth in October 1940: “And when peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place”. And “The upward course of a nation's history is due in the long run to the soundness of heart of its average men and women.”
1 day left until we see our Wynstream pupils and families. We hope you have had a safe and summer break. Gates open at 08:30am, with registration in class at 08:40am. See you soon.
Hello! We look forward to welcoming our pupils back to Wynstream on Tuesday 6th September, and of course are excited to meet our new pupils too. The new school menu launches next week too. Click the link below to help plan for the 1st week back.

This is a plea, please read the whole message!
On 21st July the PTFA are preparing to have our summer Fair. We would like to do this event for the children, families and school community. As a PTFA we are made up of 10 people, 4 staff, 6 parents.
In order to run bigger events such as Summer Fairs, discos, cake sales, we need to have a larger number of people volunteer to help us. So far having done 5 cake sales we have had only 2 parents in total outside the PTFA help. If we have more people, it becomes much less work as whole, meaning not everyone has to do every event.
I am writing this as a plea for help to get volunteers to sign up to help man a stall at the Summer Fair for a 30 minute slot. This is equivalent to less than 2 parents per class.
We have already had 12 sign up to help (thank you!) so need another 12 people signed up to man stalls by Tuesday 12th July. If we do not have enough people we will have to cancel the Summer Fair as it is impossible for us to do with so few people.
If you would like to sign up to help please either email [email protected] or sign up to a sheet outside your child's class, or message Mrs Daly, Miss Fulls, Miss Humphreys, Ms Vickery.
Many thanks
PTFA
Please help the PTFA with running a raffle at our summer fair. Donations with be gratefully received at classrooms or at the office. Thank you for all your support!

Caught In The Web Lessons - Well Done to all Year 5 students who have participated in the "Caught in the Web" ICT lessons run by Miss Diamond.
As part of the ICT (Information, Communication & Technology) lessons, Year 5 have all created posters around Internet Safety and Cyberbullying. It was very hard to choose the top three posters from each class as they all did amazing and have shown greater knowledge throughout the last 6 weeks.
Congratulations to our poster winners Kelsey, Isobel, Teo & Preston from Cedar & Shakyla, Bartosz & Tate from Willow. Some examples of the winning poster are below, and all of them can be seen on pages 7-9 of the latest school newsletter. Visit school website https://www.wynstreamprimary.org.uk/letters-and-newsletters or Class DoJo to see the newsletter.
On Wednesday 22nd June, the whole of Year 2 went on a Science and Art trip to Haldon Forest. Trips and visits are a crucial part of learning, and we are so glad that our classes were able to go. They had a brilliant day, and our children found the natural environment very inspiring. The art was inspired by an artist called Andy Goldsworthy. He uses natural resources in the environment to produce art. The children impressed all the adults who went with them. Thanks to Miss Humphreys and Mrs Howell.
Kyzer told us "I had a great time on the minibus. We made a picture of a kite with sticks, leaves, pine cones and rocks. It was a good day!"
Issac told us “I have never been on a school trip before and I felt very excited. I had an amazing day. We went for a walk, ate lunch together on the grass and made art in the woods. It was the best day ever!“ Well done everyone.
Can you help run a stall at our Summer Fair? Please contact our Wynstream PTFA for more information: [email protected]
School Crossing Patrol Update. Some good news for the school from Devon County Council who manage the school crossing patrol. The vacancy has been filled, and from the start of the new school year in September we will have a new crossing patrol person. Unfortunately, the crossing will remain unmanned for the rest of the summer term.
Well done to each and every one of our 14 pupils recognised on Friday for strongly demonstrating any one of our Wynstream School Values. A few examples of the latest nominations were;
"This pupil comes alive in science lessons and is so infectiously enthusiastic towards his learning. He regularly provides extra homework based on his interests. Keep striving to learn more!!!"
"This pupil is working extremely hard to improve her handwriting and is now forming clear letters"
"This pupil is a very caring member of our class, she is always willing to help her friends with their learning and checks in to make sure they are OK if they look sad. They always do the right thing and set a brilliant example to her friends of how to act in school. Well done!"
Congratulations everyone, we are very proud of you.

Pepper, our therapy dog in training is settling in very well. Pepper has now got a timetable to spend time with our Year 6 children who will be moving on to secondary school. She will continue to spend time greeting all children on the way into school and will visit all classes. However, no child (or adult) ever has to go near Pepper unless they want to.
Message from Cyber Protection Team.
Police are urging parents to stop their children from watching videos on social media platforms including TikTok that feature a killer bear called Huggy Wuggy - a main character in 'Poppy Playtime'. The warning comes amid concerns that some children are copying the bear's actions in the playground and that the videos are graphic and traumatising to young children.
Chris Conroy, Cyber Protection Officer for Dorset Police told a newspaper "There are videos people have made, songs people have made, and it's popping up all over YouTube and Tik Tok using this quite graphic imagery of this bear-like character with razor sharp teeth. It’s based around jump scares and things you certainly wouldn’t want children exposed to”
Please be aware that any toys, books or other item with ‘huggy wuggy’ will not be allowed in school. Thank you.
Well done to 14 of our pupils who were nominated for Headteacher Awards last Friday. Each and every nomination very well deserved. One example of the nominations reads “For always helping other pupils without being asked. If someone is upset she is the first to be there to ask if they are okay.”
Last week, and this week we will be telling the children about a new celebration that will be held termly at Wynstream. We are proud of all the children and would like to be able to reward children termly for their progress. Staff from each year group will select one child to get a progress award and this will be presented to them during
a whole school assembly. The award will be a book token that can be used to buy a book to inspire their learning further.
Whilst we value academic progress, we also want to recognise the wider Wynstream values. The whole staff will help to select five
children from across the school who have embodied each value for the term and five children will receive a governors’ award shield to keep. Governors will present the awards to the children and parents of those children receiving awards will be invited to the assembly. Over time we hope that many of our children will get the chance to receive one of these awards.
