*** OPTALKS IS BACK! 🀩 ***
OpTalks is back with a huge name in Metamaterials to kick off our series of talks for this term. We are delighted to be hosting the amazing Andrea Alu, at 2pm (UK time) on 11th October. He will be joining us to discuss Nonlocal Metasurfaces!

For those of you who are new to this series of talks:
- It's free to sign up, all the talks are hosted virtually on zoom.
- The talks are unique as they combine traditional technical colloquia style, with an informal careers chat towards the end.
- We have amazing speakers giving up their time to speak to our audience, and answer your questions - so don't miss out!

The full abstract for this talk, some more info about our speaker, and free sign-up can be found here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcpduCvrzsqE9RGwKmn9VY62jz7hwEj6SY0

Friday socials are back! Starting tomorrow πŸΏπŸ«πŸ˜„

If you're Exeter based, come along and say hey, at 4:30pm in the Physics SCR on the 7th floor. There will be snacks provided, as well as a chance to meet other people from the department, the society committee, and hear what we've got coming up in the next few weeks.
Anyone is welcome, at any stage of study! We can't wait to see you🎊

There is still time to sign up, so don't miss out! Next Monday we will be joined by Sylvain Gigan - register for free here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZclceCsqz8sE9ISg2L_dNBEm4UUWdRpAl_Y?fbclid=IwAR1mffEzrXK3sCtH_yx5L1-A19nC37UUBHzA1j-0EQH4LsufkHm5ro-ZGNE

πŸš€ We have an incredible talk lined up from Prof. Sylvain Gigan, Sorbonne Univ. πŸ‡«πŸ‡·!

Talking about 'A sneak peek with light into opaque materials: from imaging to computing'. Sign up now: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZclceCsqz8sE9ISg2L_dNBEm4UUWdRpAl_Y

Light propagation in complex media, such as paint, clouds, or biological tissues, is a very challenging phenomenon, encompassing fundamental aspects in mesoscopic and statistical physics. It is also of utmost applied interest, in particular for imaging. Wavefront shaping has revolutionized the ability to image through or in complex media. I will discuss how computational tools and machine learning allows to develop further wavefront shaping for imaging applications, and conversely discuss how the same complexity can be leveraged for optical computing tasks.
