Our Pre-School was first established in 1991 at Heavitree United Reformed Church, running as Heavitree URC Pre-School. Evolving from a mother and baby group, our setting successfully ran morning sessions from the church for many years until facilities became unsuitable for our needs. In July 2006 we achieved our accreditation by successfully fulfilling the criteria required for the pre-school learning alliance quality assurance scheme. This is a government backed self-assessment scheme, where we provide evidence that the care and education given to your child reaches the optimum standard. In 2009 Devon County Council agreed to build us a brand new premises on the site on St Michaels Primary School. Plans were submitted and in June 2010 we packed up our pre-school, and spent many weeks of hard labour moving just down the road to our new purpose built facilities. We recieved a lottery grant to enable us to furnish our new building and for that we were extremely grateful! In September we opened our doors with a new name, 'Heavitree Community Pre-School, offering much more flexibility to our sessions, now taking children from two years. We are a registered Charity and run as a non profit organisation, managed by a committee of mainly parent volunteers who give up much of their valuable time in order to make our Pre-School, the special place that it is today. We follow the requirements of the Early Years Foundation stage and welcome families from all walks of life and religions. Although we are situated on the site of a Church Of England School, our curriculum is not led by any one religious belief, indeed we embrace and include cultural activities from across the globe.
