Fun exploring our local park. We played on the trim trail, swung on the swings and tried to catch some grass 'sprinkles'. Playgrounds offer such a good opportunity to practice gross motor skills, even for the little ones!

A lovely morning exploring our mud kitchen. The children had great fun banging and bashing the utensils and exploring where the ball goes if we drop it into the chimney of our makeshift playhouse (aka. Big cardboard box!)

Lots of gross motor skills practised: crawling through the box and stretching up to reach the bowls on the top of the mud kitchen.

We also explored positional language ('in', 'on', 'out' and 'off') when we talked about where the ball had gone.

A bit of rain and just like that it feels like autumn. A great excuse to put on the puddlesuits and go exploring!

We practiced leaf throwing and mark-making using sticks in the mud (so nice the plants are getting some water now), followed of course by blackberry picking to finish our walk.

Who needs a tuff tray when you've got the woods!

Some sensory play this week. Exploring different garden herbs and mark making with yogurt paint.

This set up was a lot of fun. We got to experiment with mixing colours as well as explore the different smells made by the lavender, sage and rosemary plants. As a bonus, the sprigs of herbs made great paint brushes!

A little introduction. I'm Lizzy, the childminder behind Busy Lizzy's Childminding - Exeter I started this journey into childminding three months into MAT leave with my own daughter. Six months of prep, paperwork and baby-proofing later, I am pleased to say after a successful visit from Ofsted, I am now officially an Ofsted registered childminder and ready to take on children in September.

I cannot wait to start this new stage of my career and am excited to have the privilege of shaping and enhancing your children's early years education.

Here's a brief guide to my learning and childcare approach as well as the hours and days I cover. If an arty, outdoorsy, play-based setting is what you're looking for, pop me a message or contact me on WhatsApp.

A swamp-themed tuff-tray today. Reading "If I had a crocodile..." has inspired us to dive into our crocodile knowledge. What do crocodiles do? Where do they live? What animals live near them?

This tuff tray is great for sensory exploration, comparing different textures, squeezing and crumbling. It also builds language as we were talking about "slimy swamps" and "leafy trees".

Some pics of the setting and resources available. Like many others, I am really keen that my childminding space feels like a home-away-from-home and not a nursery. Warm colours and simple, high-quality resources are how I am trying to achieve this. Above all, I want children to feel comfortable in my setting. What makes you feel most at home?

Some work on our mud kitchen today. Our outside space is starting to look and feel really welcoming with lots of invitations to play. The children have access to a variety of kitchen utensils, scoopers and jugs to pour, and mixing bowls to create concoctions with.

We also have a multi-purpose table. This table is great as it has a removable lid so can be used as a tuff tray or sensory bin. Its legs are also removable so the height can be adjusted for different children. Alternatively it makes a great drawing or painting space.

A sea-themed tuff tray today, with taste-safe kinetic sand and sea made out of oobleck (cornflower paste). This was great sensory exploration as we experimented with the different textures of the oobleck and the sand. The sea shell and sea animals also provided some interesting mark-making tools.

EYFS areas:

* Understanding the world: Cause and effect of moving toys through oobleck and scrunching the sand, different textures.
* Communication and language: vocabulary around the sea, sea life and beaches.
* PSED: Independent exploration of the tuff tray and using different objects to make marks and print with.
