We have just finished an incredible week at Wivey Pool, Wiveliscombe delivering a Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification!

What a week it has been! These incredible 12 x candidates all passed a gruelling 6 x days of learning - from CPR and defibrillator usage and how to deal with ailments like medical shock, asthma, heart attack and angina to spinal injuries in the water, extracting with the rescue board and deep water recovery of a casualty!

Congratulations to everyone and best of luck with your lifeguarding careers!

🚨‼️Allergy safety in schools has changed‼️🚨

The Department for Education has now published statutory guidance on allergy safety in schools, following the campaign widely known as “Benedict’s Law”

Schools should now be looking carefully at whether they have:

✅ A dedicated allergy safety policy
✅ A named senior lead responsible for allergy safety
✅ Individual Healthcare Plans and Allergy Action Plans where required
✅ Annual allergy awareness training for staff
✅ Clear emergency response arrangements
✅ Access to prescribed and spare adrenaline auto-injectors
✅ Procedures for school trips, catering, incidents and near misses

One of the key messages is now very clear: FIRST AID TRAINING ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH!

Allergy safety needs to be embedded across the whole school, from leadership and policy through to classroom practice, catering, supervision and emergency response.

Here, at The Training Group, we currently do and will continue to support schools with practical allergy awareness, anaphylaxis response training and policy compliance support to help them meet the expectations of the new statutory guidance.

Today we were back at Brokerswood Holiday Park delivering some hot tub training for the staff.

This is a good mix of water chemistry, basic testing foundations and emptying/refilling techniques to ensure all hot tubs are compliant and safe for usage.

We were up bright and early for a Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard renewal for 3 x members of staff at Torrington pool.

Hours and hours of training and competency assessments means that each lifeguard is put through their paces to ensure they meet vigorous standards and today was no exception.

Well done to everyone who passed, congratulations on another 2 x years of being qualified!

Today we are at Lady's Mile Holiday Park assessing some Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK Pool Lifeguards for their renewal exam.

2 x years of ongoing training, competency and assessment prepares them for their renewal exam every 2 x years so they should be prepared and ready for all eventualities.

Well done to both Caitlin and Amy today for passing their assessment and are now qualified for another 2 years!

What an incredible couple of days we have had!

Running two courses at the same time is always tough to manage but we did it with style!

Both courses were Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK National Rescue Awards for Swimming Teachers & Coaches with one being at Wellington School for the 8 x staff and the other being held at Blackbrook Leisure Centre for 5 x candidates!

Everyone passed with flying colours and it was a pleasure to train each and everyone of you. Jim & Kirsty had nothing but praise for all the candidates over the last two days 👏🏻

Tonight we were back at Brean Splash Water Park delivering another Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK staff training session.

The theme is spinal this month, with emphasis on wet and dryside techniques, including usage of the Ferno PXB in the water, for both conscious and unconscious casualties and the unconscious casualty on the land, including the new Resuscitation Council UK 2026 update guidance with Jaw thrust technique.
