We’re looking for a caring and enthusiastic Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant to join our team at Cornerstone Academy Trust.

If you enjoy working with young children and want to play an important role in supporting their learning, confidence and independence, we’d love to hear from you.

Working alongside teachers and the wider school team, you’ll help create a positive learning environment where children can develop, explore and thrive.

The role offers:
8.00am–5.00pm, five days per week
40 weeks per year – term time + 10 days

🌟✨ What a Fantastic First Week Back at Monkerton! ✨🌟

What a wonderful start to the new school year! It has been an absolute joy to welcome all of our children back to Monkerton Community Primary School this week. From the moment the gates opened on Monday morning, the school has been filled with smiles, excitement and a real buzz for learning.

Our pupils have settled brilliantly into their new classes, getting to know their teachers, reconnecting with friends and embracing the opportunities that a new academic year brings. We have been so impressed by the positive attitudes, kindness and enthusiasm shown by children across the school.

Classrooms have been busy with exciting learning, creativity and collaboration. Whether exploring new topics, sharing ideas with classmates or taking part in practical activities, our children have thrown themselves into the week with energy and determination.

Year 6 have had a fantastic and busy first week back at school!

They have been busy writing their CVs, taking part in virtual art lessons with our art teachers, learning how to use a compass in Maths and getting stuck into their games sessions, including kayaking, golf, fencing, netball and more!

The first Headteacher’s Blog of the new academic year

It has been a busy first week back across the Trust. We’ve welcomed back our pupils and families, and our new Reception children have taken their first steps into school life. It has been lovely to see our classrooms and corridors full of energy, conversation and character once again.

This week, our Year 5 pupils from across the Trust also had the opportunity to experience Private Peaceful at the Northcott Theatre, based on the much-loved novel by Michael Morpurgo.

They were especially lucky to take part in a Q&A with Michael himself, giving them the chance to hear directly from the author about his work and the story they had just seen brought to life on stage.

It was a fantastic experience and a memorable way to begin the new school year.

International Literacy Day | Stories that stay with us

Some books stay with us long after we’ve turned the final page.

There are the books that remind us of being young. The ones we read under the covers, the stories that made us laugh, frightened us, transported us somewhere completely different — or introduced us to a character we never forgot.

And then there are the books we discover all over again when we share them with our own children.

International Literacy Day is a chance to celebrate the importance of literacy — but also the joy, imagination and connection that reading can bring.

As part of the National Year of Reading, we’re celebrating not just what children are reading today, but the stories that connect generations and help build a lifelong love of reading.

So, we’re asking our Cornerstone community:
What book from your childhood would you love your child to discover?
Perhaps it’s a favourite story, a much-loved character, or a book that you still remember all these years later.

Because sometimes, one of the best ways to inspire the next generation of readers is to share the stories that inspired us.

Welcome back!

Today marks the start of a new school year, and it has been wonderful to welcome our pupils, families and staff back through the doors.

A very special welcome to all our new children and families joining us this year. We hope you quickly feel part of our school community, make lots of new friends and settle into school life.

There is so much to look forward to over the year ahead — new learning, new experiences, new friendships and plenty of opportunities to try something new and celebrate our achievements along the way.

A warm welcome to our new staff members too, and thank you to everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes to get our schools ready for the new academic year.
