July 2026 officially marks 10 years for us as a dedicated Independent Detailing Training Academy (the first under the UKDA banner)

The next Friday Session looks at a service some detailers gloss over: lease return preparation.

With many UK cars now on P*P or contract hire, there's a steady stream of vehicles heading back every month — each inspected against the BVRLA's fair wear and tear standard, with anything beyond it charged back to the customer.

A driver facing a few hundred pounds for swirls, scratches or stained trim will happily pay you to fix it first to save uncertain costs.

We'll cover the guidelines, the defects inspectors flag most often, and how to price a lease return service that adds regular work to your books, and advise customers on the most cost-efficient process.

Last week, one of the courses run at the Academy was Foundation Machine Polishing for Florin and Cătălin.

We actually changed the name of this course to Foundation Machine Polishing from "Introduction to" a while back.

Introduction undersold its content, sounding like a basic-only course - and whilst it's perfect for those who have never picked up a machine polisher before, it offers far, far more than that.

Foundation is more accurate. It's the skills that everything going forward is built on. The knowledge of how and why different inputs and variables make a difference, and how to make yourself comfortable with machine polishing before moving on to more complex and challenging tasks.

With the right base and knowledge, everything becomes adaptable and clear, taking the guesswork out and giving you hands-on guidance with a variety of machines, scenarios and options before you put it into practice.

Like our students last week, you'll leave with knowledge, confidence, and practical skills — with a solid foundation to build on, and the ability to ask us questions as you progress.
