Results day can feel enormous.

GCSE RESITS 2026: WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

For some young people, opening that envelope or seeing those results online will bring relief and excitement.

For others, it may bring disappointment, tears, anxiety or even the feeling that they have let everyone down.

And for parents, it can be incredibly difficult knowing what to say or what to do next.

So before anyone starts talking about resits, grades or the next course, take a breath.

One set of results does not define your young person, their ability or their future. ❤️

Sometimes the grade is telling us more about what was happening around the young person than what they are actually capable of.

Maybe they struggled with attendance, anxiety, SEND needs, confidence, the learning environment or simply didn’t have the right support in place.

So what happens next?

📚 Maths and English Language can be resat in November.

📅 Maths: provisionally 4, 6 & 9 November 2026
📅 English Language: provisionally 3 & 5 November 2026

Most other GCSE subjects would normally be retaken in summer 2027.

If a young person doesn’t achieve a grade 4 in English and/or maths, they are expected to continue working towards the qualification or another recognised alternative.

But here’s the important bit…

Don’t just ask: “How do we get them to pass?”

Ask:

👉 What got in the way the first time?
👉 What needs to be different this time?
👉 How does this young person learn best?
👉 What support do they need?
👉 What does the young person want to achieve?

Because doing the same thing again isn’t necessarily the answer.

A resit can be an opportunity to rebuild confidence, develop skills and help a young person realise that they are capable of more than their results might currently suggest.

And depending on their circumstances, there may be other routes too, including Functional Skills.

💡 The question shouldn’t simply be:

“How do we get them to resit?”

It should be:

“What needs to change so they have a genuine opportunity to succeed?”

At Beautiful Mindset Education, we support young people who need a different approach to learning — combining academic progress with relationships, confidence, wellbeing and engagement.

If GCSE results have left you wondering “What do we do now?”, get in touch. Not everyone simply walks up the stairs.

❓❓Would you do something just because someone told you to?❓❓

Teaching content is important… but without context, it can feel pointless…. Just something I have to do!

🟰“They have a calculator.”
🔤“There’s spell check.”
👀“They can Google it.”

🤔Yes, but do they understand why they need it?

Think about ⚡️electricity 🔌 … can’t see it…
we plug something in to make it work, but without the protective casing, we get electrocuted.

Learning needs that same protection: connection, context and purpose.

✔️We make learning real.
💙We find out what matters to the young person
🔗We connect the two and show them how their learning connects to real life.

Our Founding Director was lucky enough to witness the last eclipse in the 90’s on her break in London.

‘I went outside and stood in the park area of Red Lion square, Holborn, London and waited. I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was so surreal. Everything went eerily quiet, the birds seemed confused when the light changed, I was so glad I had the glasses- I just wish I’d kept them. 2026 seem like an age away then!’.

If you haven’t managed to get hold of a pair of the safety glasses and are hoping to experience the eclipse there are safer way you can do so.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Never look at the sun through binoculars, a camera lens or any other optical equipment without a proper certified solar filter.

Check out these tips from the BBC:

With some shops running out of stock, it may be too late to buy eclipse glasses - but you can still safely watch the spectacle using some household items.

☀️ Hot Weather Reminder ☀️

With the current heatwave, we are taking steps to keep children safe and comfortable during sessions, including encouraging regular water breaks, using cooler/shaded areas where possible, and adapting activities during the hottest parts of the day.

🔵Please ensure your child brings a refillable water bottle and wears suitable clothing for the warm weather.

If your child is feeling unwell or showing signs of heat exhaustion, please let us know as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support as we work together to keep children safe during this period of hot weather. 🦋

This breaks my heart that a young person is made to feel so inadequate that they are asking what THEY need to do to change to fit into a system clearly not designed to support their needs.

We support these students out of the classroom daily.

It takes a long time to build trust, and rebuild a young person that feels broken and burnt out from constantly masking to forcibly 'fit in'.

The first thing we do is listen....🦋
