Thank you what a fab little read! Autism impacts the WHOLE family not just the child awaiting diagnosis.

Some facts about Autism.

•You can't 'catch Autism' ~ as in one day you don't have it and the next day you do.

• You don't 'Get Autism' when a Paediatrician/psychologist writes it on a pieces of paper and hands it to you. ~ They will simply help identify if you or your child is on the spectrum/autistic and help answer a lot of questions.

• Your child is your unique, beautiful child with their own personality who will continue to learn, grow and develop.

☆I got permission from.CJ Learning With Autism as I feel it offers a good explanation of ASD.

When parents come to see me shortly before or after diagnosis sometimes they don't understand what Autism is and so the overwhelming feeling is fear, and that perhaps there is something 'wrong' with their child.

Atypical or neurodiverse brain development is not wrong. It's not a 'fault' and it's not 'anyone's fault'.

Your child is still the same child you loved before you even met him/her.

He/she will learn differently and will need supports to help with their learning style.

You will also need to learn how to best support your child. And there is a wonderful community who know A LOT and want to help and support you and your child.

Some of these people are professions, some are 'everyday people' and you are 100% capable of taking in this information and applying it when and where necessary.

You don't have to be perfect, because that does not exist, and you don't have to learn everything at once, because that is not necessary/unrealistic.

Keep being the Mum/Dad/Carer/Grandmother/Grandfather you are. You've got this ❤
