🌍🌟 Climate Friendly School Award! 🌟🌍

Lumley Infant and Nursery School have joined the Junior School in achieving Climate Friendly School status! 🎉

This is a fantastic achievement and shows that no matter your age you can make a real difference in helping protect our planet and fight against climate change.

Pupils undertook actions such as growing and planting trees, composting, saving energy, and saving water to use for their indoor plants. Staff meanwhile have helped repair raised beds so the school can grow even more food, and have started looking at embedding climate change in the curriculum . 🌱💚

🌍🌟 Big round of applause for another amazing Climate Friendly School! 🌟🌍

A big well done to St Benet's Catholic Primary School - Ouston for achieving Climate Friendly School status! 🎉

The whole school community worked together to achieve their 10 climate friendly actions and they have made huge strides in their sustainability goals. From reducing energy use to building raised beds to grow their own food, pupils and staff have learnt new skills and put in the effort to make a real difference. 🌱💚

You should be incredibly proud of all that you have achieved— and spreading the message to your wider community.

St Benet's Catholic Primary School - Ouston have been doing an excellent job completing their Climate Friendly Schools actions!

Together with Tori they’ve been building brand‑new raised beds so they can start growing their own fruit and vegetables at school! 🍓🥕🌱

🌱 Why not try installing a wormery? 🪱

A wormery is a simple and effective way to reduce food waste while creating nutrient-rich compost for plants and gardens. By feeding worms fruit and vegetable scraps, they naturally break down the waste and turn it into valuable fertiliser.

It’s a great way to learn about the natural cycle of decomposition and see sustainability in action. Plus, it’s easy to set up and maintain.

A few helpful tips:
• Place your wormery in a cool, shaded spot
• Feed your worms fruit and vegetable scraps (avoid meat, dairy and oily foods)
• Add shredded paper or cardboard to keep the balance right
• Keep it moist but not too wet

A small step like installing a wormery can make a big difference for both the environment and soil health. 🌍
