It was with immense pleasure and pride that we welcomed to our school and community on Thursday, 11th June, Mrs Maria Michail, Senior Officer of the Service for Overseas and Repatriated Cypriots at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, and Mrs Marial Loi, Educational Attaché for Greek Schools at the Cyprus High Commission.

Their visit provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon our pupils’ remarkable journey through the project “Η Κύπρος στην τάξη μας – Cyprus in Our Classrooms.” This initiative formed part of a wider school project that encouraged our children to engage with literary texts, including the work of author Despoina Eracleous, while exploring the history, culture, and identity of Cyprus.

Throughout the project, pupils exchanged ideas, watched videos about cyprus, history and green line, developed their creative writing skills, deepened their understanding of significant historical events, and brought their learning to life through a 3D model project depicting the homes and communities along Cyprus’ Green Line. For many of our children, this has been an inspiring and meaningful journey—one that has enriched not only their knowledge of the Greek language but also their appreciation of their heritage, history, and identity as Greek Cypriots.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Michail and Mrs Loi for their visit, encouragement, and continued support of Greek Cypriot education and cultural heritage. Their presence made this occasion truly memorable for our pupils, staff, and wider school community.

A special note of appreciation is also extended to our dedicated Management Board members, Chrissoula Elia and Maria Ellina, for spending the entire day with us and for hosting such a wonderful afternoon and dinner, making our guests feel welcome.

We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our Headteacher, Dr Stella Tryfonos, for her vision, leadership, and outstanding coordination of this project. Finally, we would like to recognise and thank the incredible teaching team of the Greek School of Ayia Triada (Maria Georgiou, Natali Tsikouri, Despoina Takirdiki, Klio Theodosiou, Eva Souza, Dimitris Themistokleous, Dr Aglaia Foteinou, and Eva Souza, Aggeliki Neofytou, Alex Agapakis and Iakovos Anastasakis) whose dedication, passion, and countless hours of hard work brought this project to life. Their unwavering commitment to our children’s learning, cultural awareness, and personal development has been truly inspiring.

Together, we continue to nurture our language, preserve our heritage, and strengthen the connection of future generations to the rich history and identity of Cyprus.
