La Galette des Rois 👑
The French have been serving up galette des rois since the 14th-century. Traditionally, it is served on January 6th – the 12th day of Christmas – to celebrate the Epiphany, a religious feast day commemorating the arrival of the Three Kings to the manger where Jesus was born. Today, it’s eaten throughout the month of January and is simply a festive way to celebrate the new year with family and friends, regardless of religious background.
Traditionally made of puff pastry, butter, ground almonds and sugar, it is also coming in the form of a brioche in the South of France (La brioche des Rois)
The youngest in the family goes under the table and decides which slice goes to who. Children are normally very excited to find the « fève » but you are not allowed to cheat and peek before eating your slice!
If you are lucky enough to get the charm (fève), you then become King or Queen for the day and get crowned
