After lots of interest, I’ll be bringing back my small group tuition sessions, starting after February half term and running until the beginning of July.

I’ve previously run phonics groups very successfully, with children gaining confidence and fluency ahead of the Phonics Screening Check, as well as times tables groups supporting Year 4 children in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check. These sessions have always worked really well, helping children build both skills and confidence in a supportive environment.

Small groups allow children to:
✔️ Practise key skills
✔️ Learn alongside peers
✔️ Gain confidence without pressure
✔️ Benefit from focused teacher input

I’ll be offering:
🔤 Year 1 Phonics groups (phonics screening preparation)
➗ Year 4 Times Tables groups (MTC preparation)

Sessions are 45 minutes, with a minimum of 2 children and a maximum of 4 children per group.

Spaces will be very limited and will be allocated on a first-come basis. If you’re interested or would like more information, please message me to register interest.

"Why Times Tables Are So Important in Maths"

It’s not just about learning the times table for the statutory times table test in year 4. Times tables are the foundation for so many aspects of maths that children build upon throughout their time at school.

If they are confident with times tables, they will be confident in so many other areas of maths that times tables feed into, such as:

• Fractions: Finding common denominators, simplifying fractions.
• Division: Long division and word problems.
• Percentages: Converting fractions to percentages quickly.
• Ratios & Proportion: Scaling recipes, maps, and word problems.
• Area & Perimeter: Especially of rectangles, triangles, compound shapes.
• Algebra: Simplifying expressions, factorising.
• Mental Maths Speed: Helps with confidence in all maths topics.

I have managed to open up one tutoring slot for September on a Wednesday afternoon.

🌟Coming this September…Times Tables Club 🌟

✅30 minutes group session
✅ Maximum 4 children (minimum 2)
✅Year 3 or Year 4 (7-9)
✅Taught by a fully qualified teacher

These sessions will focus solely on times tables with the aim to improve accuracy, speed and confidence with times tables through games and practical activities. Making learning times tables fun, engaging and memorable.

These sessions will have to support children for the compulsory times table test in the summer of Year 4.

Why learning times tables is important

1️⃣ Starting early and learning the easier times tables will make it easier to learn the harder ones for example knowledge of the 3 times table will help when learning the 6 times table.
2️⃣ When children frequently, successfully, recall their times tables they will grow in confidence, which will help them tackle more challenging maths problems.
3️⃣ Multiplication underpins many other aspects of mathematics such as algebra, division and fractions.
4️⃣ Recalling times tables improves memory skills, which is a transferrable skill that will help children throughout school.
5️⃣ Children will find it easier to solve maths problems and to do mental arithmetic if they have already memorised their times tables.
6️⃣ Multiplication is used day to day throughout adulthood, whether it’s working out price reductions, doubling recipes or splitting bills!

It is not often I have slots available most of my tutees have been with me since I first start tutoring and we are going into our 4th year together.

Christmas activities have started this week. Heres’s a great activity for ordering numbers from 0 to 20. It’s also great for encouraging counting on from any number, missing number, one more one less to name just a few.
