🔬✨ STEM in Action at JMPS! ✨🏗️

Our P7 pupils had a fantastic visit from Sentinus today for an exciting hands-on STEM Challenge!

Working together in teams, pupils were challenged to design and build paper structures, putting their creativity, problem-solving and engineering skills to the test. 💡📐

There was plenty of discussion, experimenting, adapting and teamwork as pupils discovered that sometimes the best learning comes from trying, testing and trying again!

A huge thank you to Sentinus for providing such an engaging learning experience and inspiring our young engineers of the future. 🌟

At Jones Memorial Primary School, we love creating opportunities for pupils to develop the skills, confidence and curiosity they need for the world beyond the classroom.

💙 October is ADHD Awareness Month 💛

At Jones Memorial Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to feel understood, valued and supported.

ADHD can look different for everyone. For some children it may mean difficulty concentrating or sitting still; for others it can involve racing thoughts, impulsivity, emotional overwhelm, tiredness, sensory overload or finding organisation and transitions difficult.

What we see on the outside does not always tell us what a child is managing on the inside.

That is why at we want to look beyond behaviour and ask:

💙 What might this child be communicating?
💛 What do they need from us right now?
💙 How can we help them feel safe, calm and ready to learn?

ADHD is not laziness, poor discipline or simply “bad behaviour.” Sometimes a child needs movement. Sometimes they need less stimulation, a quiet space, reassurance, a predictable routine or simply an adult who understands.

And importantly, regulation comes before learning. A calm, trusted adult can make an enormous difference to a child who is feeling overwhelmed.

During ADHD Awareness Month, we celebrate the different ways our children think, learn, communicate and experience the world. We will continue working to create classrooms where difference is understood and where children are supported to develop strategies that work for them.

At Jones Memorial, inclusion isn’t about expecting every child to fit into the same box. It’s about making sure every child has a place where they belong. 🌈

SPSC KS2 had a fantastic morning at the Marble Arch Caves today, finishing off our topic on Co. Fermanagh! 🦇🪨
The pupils learned all about stalactites, discovered which animals live in the caves and even got to see some fossils. A brilliant morning of exploring and learning! 🌟

🍂🌍 ECO CREATIVE COMPETITION – LET YOUR IMAGINATION GO WILD! 🌍🍂

Calling all our creative thinkers, young artists, scientists and inventors at JMPS! 💡🎨🔬

Our Eco Council is challenging pupils to create something ARTISTIC or SCIENTIFIC that is good for our planet. 🌱

The possibilities are endless! You could make a leaf animal, recycled robot, nature collage, bottle-top mosaic, bug hotel, bird feeder, mini greenhouse, wind-powered car, eco-house… or surprise us with a completely original idea of your own! ⭐

♻️ The challenge: Try to use recycled, natural or unwanted materials. Can you turn something that might have been thrown away into something AMAZING?

🏆 FIRST PRIZE – £20!
📅 Closing date: 16th October
📍 Bring your creation to the Eco Council in Mr Clyde’s Room.

💙💛 COMMUNICATION BELONGS TO EVERYONE AT JMPS! 💛💙

Our staff at Jones Memorial Primary School have been busy learning Makaton as part of our continued commitment to creating a school where every child is seen, heard, understood and valued.

Through Makaton training, our staff are developing their signing skills and exploring new ways to support communication across our whole school community. From hello and thank you, to lunch, play, please, look, tidy and sit — each new sign gives us another way to connect. 🤝

At JMPS, we recognise that children communicate in different ways. By developing a shared approach to communication, we are helping to remove barriers, build confidence and create an environment where everyone can participate and belong.

Our Sign of the Week will help pupils and staff learn together, making Makaton a visible and natural part of everyday school life.

Because inclusion isn’t simply about being in the same place — it’s about making sure everyone has a way to join in. 💙💛

We are delighted to offer affordable Wrap-Around Care at JMPS, providing pupils with a safe, welcoming and familiar environment before and after school.
Children can enjoy breakfast, supervised play, time with friends and support with homework—all with adults they know and trust.
