Meera Syal (born 27 June 1961) is an English comedian, writer, playwright, singer, journalist, and actress.

She was first spotted in the barrier breaking comedy sketch show, The Real McCoy, then later, Goodness Gracious Me, and The Kumars at No. 42.

In 1996, Syal released the novel 'Anita and Me', which is featured in the GCSE English Literature Paper 1 exam.

Akala (Kingslee James McLean Daley, who was born on 1st December 1983), is a British rapper, journalist, author, activist, and poet.

He has been included on the annual Powerlist of the 100 most influential Black British people in the UK.

In 2018, Akala published 'Natives: Race and Class in the Ruins of Empire'. The book is part biography, and part polemic on race and class. 

In 2021, he published 'The Dark Lady'. It is a young adult fictional narrative, set in Shakespearean London, which follows the life of a young Moor, called Henry, who learns how to navigate his using magical powers.

It follows the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge - a selfish businessman, who visits his past, and learns how to have empathy for the people he has wronged in his life.

As one of the GCSE Literature Paper 1 texts, you will need to understand context, quotes, and the writer's language choices.

Eric Arthur Blair(25 June 1903 – 21 January 1950) was an English novelist, essayist, journalist, and critic who wrote under the pseudonym, George Orwell.

Orwell is best known for his enormously successful titles, 'Animal Farm' and '1984'.

Both are powerful dystopian novels, warning of a future world where the state exerts complete control over its citizens' social lives.

'Animal Farm' is also one of the novels studied on the GCSE Literature Paper 2 exam.

How significant do you think that Orwell's ideas were to the world that we live in today? 🤔
