Today our Year 12 students who plan to study medicine, or a medical related degree, were taken off timetable to participate in a training session on first aid. We were lucky enough to have an ex-Latymerian Myurri Lohesan come to deliver the session to the students with her colleague Keagan Witts, both St John Ambulance volunteers as well as medical students. The day was a great success where essential life skills were taught! It was a great day enjoyed by all and we look forward to repeating it for the Year 9’s in a couple of weeks with the support of the newly trained Year 12’s.
Andrew Granath Memorial, 1st December - 6.30pm at the Latymer School. Andrew taught history and politics at Latymer for almost 30 years and inspired a generation of Latymerians until he retired as Head of Department in 2016.
His family has arranged an informal memorial event at Latymer on the evening of 1st December 2022 and would like to invite all those who knew Andrew as a teacher, colleague, or friend, to join them and to share memories of him. There will be tea, coffee, light refreshments and hopefully some music.
Please RSVP to [email protected] as soon as possible.
The Latymer Community, along with the whole nation, is deeply saddened by the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II and sends its sincere condolences to the Royal Family.
Whilst the moment of her passing is an unhappy one, it is important to celebrate her life, her long reign and also remember the many personal traits she embodied and regularly modelled
in her meetings with people from diverse backgrounds and faiths. Tolerance, respect, kindness, inclusivity, humility and hard work are just a few of those qualities we respected her for, and on which our day-to-day at Latymer is based. As a community, we will
continue to hold these qualities dear and in so doing, remember and honour our late Queen.

Our Senior Drama production this November is the wonderful musical “Hello Dolly”.
Hello, Dolly! is a 1964 musical with lyrics and music by Jerry Herman and based on a book by Michael Stewart. olly Levi is a meddlesome socialite turned matchmaker who, whilst grieving for her late husband phram, travels to Yonkers, New York to find a match for the miserly ‘half-a-millionaire’ Horace Vandergelder. She soon, however, develops her own agenda as she realises the next match, she needs to make is for herself. This classic story is accompanied by a rousing score, featuring iconic songs such as “Put on Your Sunday Clothes”, “Before the Parade Passes By” and – of course – “Hello, Dolly!”
We hope that many of you will want to join us for our production, which showcases some of our most talented performers from Years 10 to 13.

This half term in Design and Technology three Year 7 groups have been learning about electrical engineering as part of our carousel of learning. They have learnt key principles and skills such as reading resistor colour codes, using a breadboard to prototype circuits and using complex components such as transistors. In this video Honor (7 Latymer) is demonstrating LEDs placed in series with a parallel branch controlled by a push-to-make button.
Alex Holbrook (year 13) has created a drawing machine as part of Design and Technology Enrichment. He has combined 3D printing, robotics, electronics and coding to produce a fantastic piece of work that was incredibly challenging to make. The machine can draw any picture that uses the .svg format. The video shown here took 3 hours to film!
Ihsaan Hussain in year 11 has been awarded a commendation for this amazing wind turbine, created as part of his GCSE Design and Technology work. It has been laser-cut using plywood and clear polypropylene.
Today we held the societies fair in the Great Hall. It’s wonderful to see so many clubs, societies and students coming together.
You can still start your club or society please let us know if you’d a copy of the form (latymer students only)
We are very proud of our Year 11 students who have achieved stellar GCSE results. This has been a very difficult two years for each and every one of them as they have worked very hard to overcome the pressure of two lockdowns. 40% of grades were at level 9 and 70% grade 9 or 8 – an absolutely phenomenal achievement. We look forward to welcoming them to the sixth form and seeing them grow and develop further.
There are, of course, a small number of students leaving Latymer and we wish them every success in their new venture.
Congratulations to our departing Year 13 students who have achieved superbly in their A Level results. We would like to say well done to all of our sixth form students and we are really pleased that the vast majority have now secured places at the universities of their choice. Looking at the subjects they will study, they range from animation to veterinary medicine! This year we have 18 students going on to Oxford and Cambridge, 18 to UCL, 9 to Durham with 23 students going on to study medicine. I would also like to thank staff and parents for the tremendous support shown to this year group.
We should not underestimate the achievements of this year group who have withstood enormous pressure having missed so much time in the sixth form. We really hope that their years at university will bring them the rewards they so deserve having missed out on the “extras” that Latymer offers. Nevertheless, I would like to acknowledge the tremendous work this year group did on themes such as Black Lives Matter, equality and also the way in which they kept clubs and societies running over lockdown and finally the phenomenal work of the Charities Committee in raising social awareness amongst our students as well as financial support for a wide range of charitable organisations.
