🎆🌟🎆 We hope you have a happy and safe bonfire night! 🎆🌟🎆

Stay safe and remember to keep children safe by always having an adult supervise when there are fireworks nearby, have children stand well back from lit fireworks and a bonfire, and get them to wear gloves when holding a sparkler.

This (National Children's Day UK 2022) we are celebrating . ♥️

Our encourage independence across all areas of learning and development, and our philosophy of ‘Nurture, Care, Inspire’ in all our settings teaches the importance of and the value of care and respect for others.

We do this through talking about our emotions and feelings; our children have ‘kind hands’, ‘listening ears’, and ‘walking feet’. We also celebrate diversity to help children feel confident and empowered to be who they want to be.

Tell us how you ? ♥️

This month, our theme is and we have our top 5 tips to support children’s wellbeing to share with you. ♥️

1. Encourage independence and let children plan and help prepare one meal with you a week.

2. Use positive emotional language to help children understand their feelings. Children who are able to use emotional language are generally happier as they have the tools to problem solve and regulate their feelings.

3. Be active and make time for outdoor exploration, allowing children to explore, discover, climb and run. This encourages development of large motor skills and wellbeing. Why not build an obstacle course together or make a den and have a picnic? Gardening is another great why to enjoy the outdoors and encourage mental wellbeing.

4. Create opportunity for mindful moments together. Are there spaces in your setting/home where your child (and or you) can lay back and relax, daydream or read a story? You can even practice yoga and breathing techniques to help children feel grounded.

5. Get creative and give children the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of materials and mark-making tools. Creativity should be about enjoying the activity and not about having a finished product. Being creative and having fun, such as messy play, singing and dancing, can release positive endorphins to help support feeling good.

It was International Women’s Day on Tuesday and we are celebrating inspirational women at Family First Day Nurseries, meet Elizabeth, our Apprentice from The Old Windsor Day Nursery and Pre-School…

Who inspires you every day? My Family and my co-workers, they inspire me to be a better me and to challenge myself.

What’s your proudest moment? My proudest moment is being nominated and winning Miss Slinky 2021 at slimming world.

What advice would you give to people wanting to progress in early years education? No question is a silly question, bad criticism is good criticism!

How do you inspire and empower other women? Be supportive, be understanding and be positive. Always be a listening ear and never be judgemental.

This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating inspirational women at Family First Nurseries, meet Paige from our Parent Liaison Team…

Who inspires you every day? My mum inspires me every day for the kind and hard-working woman she is. ♥️

What’s your proudest moment? My proudest moment is working with Head Start Day Nursery Barnet from the age of 16 as an apprentice and working my way up through to third in charge. Now after nearly 8 years with the company I have started a new journey within my career, becoming a part of the parent liaison team.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to progress in early years? My advice to people who want to progress in early years education, would be to not give up and to chase your dreams. Put your all into it and enjoy it!

How do you inspire other women? I inspire and empower other women by being someone that they can confide in and talk to. I'd like to say I'm able to voice concerns that other women may have if they don't have the confidence to do so, however I would try and encourage them to do this themselves.

Early Years - World Book Day 03/03/2022

Early Years - World Book Day

What shall I read? 📚

Oliver Nathan, Childcare Specialist and Mental Health Lead at Family First Nurseries has recommended his for adults, called ‘Song of Achilles’ by Madeline Miller. It is an incredibly well written take on the Greek mythological story of Achilles but through the eyes of Patroclus. Oliver says, “It’s the perfect mix between a romance and a war novel and it makes me cry every time I read it!”

For children he recommends ‘Sometimes I Like To Curl Up In A Ball’ by Charles Fuge and Vicki Churchill. It’s about a little wombat and all of the fun things he likes to do! But by the end of the day what he likes best is to find somewhere safe and cosy and small, and that’s where he likes to curl up in a ball.

There are also several reading recommendations for early years on the World Book Day website, identifying for each of the key areas in a classroom.

Or why not send us your own recommendations?

- Day 4, Did you know… other forms of practical literacy can help inform and inspire children too, for example, following a recipe or just being creative with a shopping list. This application of words to a real-life activity provides a more tangible aspect of learning. 📖

Share a Story Corner

It’s never too early to read with your child and spending just ten minutes every day enjoying books together can make a BIG difference to their development. Sharing stories boosts creativity and imagination, improves wellbeing, is a positive experience for parents, carers, guardians, grandparents – everyone! – and is great fun! ♥️

This World Book Day, why not spend 10 minutes a day sharing a story.

- Day 3, Did you know… stories are a fantastic source of information. Children and babies are obviously too young to physically explore the world around them, so encouraging literacy from an early age is a great way to inform them about different cultures, places, and ideas. For example, exploring animals in the ocean or in Africa together. 📚🐯🐟
