Orange Class had great fun completely their fieldwork today! ✏️ They received a letter from Handa (from Handa’s Surprise!) and were tasked with finding out which fruit is currently most popular in Tesco’s 🍒🍓🍉🍇🍌🍍

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Cedars Park 🌳 The children explored the different areas within the grounds and they also got to meet some fabulous animals! 🦡🐾🐌
Listening to the kookaburra, feeding the meerkats and stroking an armadillo were real treats! 🤩

Today was our ☀️ Summer Fun Day 🎉 at Southbury 🥳 and did we have fun!! 🤩 The sun was shining, games were played, faces were painted & prizes were won! Thank you to all of the children, staff and parents who helped make the day special and fun for the children 🤗

Year 5 enjoyed making a Chinese lantern using one of their paintings of the “Four Gentlemen” in Chinese art 🏮🧧🧑🏽‍🎨🇨🇳

The children enjoyed dressing up in their cultural clothes, eating foods from around the world, learning about different cultures, learning new dances and some even had the opportunity to get some henna designs on their hands! 🤩

LittleCity visited Reception and Nursery! 🤩 The children had so much fun role-playing and exploring the city. Salma said, “I want to be a doctor when I’m older!” 🩺🩻
Leila said, “I want to be a vet and help the animals!” 🐶🐈🐰

In science Year 3 have been designing a new school bag to keep children safe when walking at night 🌒They tested which materials were good at reflecting light and discovered shiny materials were good at reflecting light! 💡🔦🌛🌑

Year 3 started their new DT Topic ‘StoryBooks’ exploring how moving parts work 💭 They could explain how the picture was moving using pivot, rotation and lever ✅ We’re looking forward to creating our own story books over the next few weeks 🤩📚✍🏽🖌️

Nursery have begun to read The Three Little Pigs 📚The children made their little pigs this week for the class display 🐷🐷🐷 ✂️🖌️

As part of their RE learning Reception have been learning about different creation stories. They used recycled resources to become creators themselves! Here we have a birthday cake, a pair of binoculars and an octopus! 🐙

Thank you to for hosting an amazing Football Festival, where some of our lucky year 3’s, 5’s and 6’s got to visit the training ground for an action packed morning of football fun! Well done to all the children who attended for being such good representatives for Southbury and a special well done to Kaiser in 3SC & Hodan in 6B who won Goal of the tournament and goal keeper of the tournament! ⚽️🥅🏟️👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏿

Year 4 are learning about scientists and inventors 👨🏽‍🔬 This week they learned about Garret Morgan, famous for improving the traffic light system 🚦Mr Briggs showed us how to programme a Micro bit on the computers to get a traffic light system working 💡

Reception have started their sports day practice! They had so much fun practising some of their different PE skills ⚽️ 🏃‍♂️

Year 3 were excited to see that their sunflower seeds have started to germinate - well done gardeners!!! 💛🌻☀️🌱

Years 2 & 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from the fire brigade last week 🔥🚒🧯👩🏽‍🚒 They learnt some very useful fire safety tips and got to ask lots questions at the end!

This week, Year 6 concluded their 10 week singing course with Enfield Sings with a concert for parents and other year groups 🎶 The children performed brilliantly 🤩 A special thank you to Elena from for being such a wonderful singing teacher! 🥳

The children in Nursery have been concentrating on the number 1 ☝🏼They have been showing one on their fingers, by doing one jump, one clap and one hop 👏🏼They have been showing us one object and have made a Numberblock 1 🥳

Reception enjoyed becoming researchers this week to find out information about penguins and Antarctica 🇦🇶🥶 They loved using the class iPads to find out interesting facts 📱This learning has been part of our new power of reading text ‘Blue Penguin’ 🐧 📚

Thank you to Enfield for having our lovely Year 2 and Year 5 children over to watch the film “Epic Tails” on Thursday as part of the Into Film Festival 🍿🎬 The children had a lovely time! 🥳

Year one enjoyed a trip to the park last week and had lots of fun! 🥳👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏿
They excitedly spotted a range of deciduous and evergreen trees in our local area 🌳🌲🍁🍂🍃

Year 2 have been writing their own versions of the story ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ 🐅🫖 with the audience of year 2 children in mind. They then read their stories to the children in the other class 📖 Some of the writing was so fantastic that it will be published in each class’ ‘Wow Writing’ books 🤩

Southbury Primary School would like to say a very big thank you to TG Lynes, a leading heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier and a business that has been an important part of the Enfield community for the last 21 years.

TG Lynes very generously launched a competition called ‘Helping Hands’ to support good causes close to its Enfield headquarters, with the aim of supporting the community. Having entered, we are delighted to have secured second place and have been awarded £5,000 🥳

The funding will go towards improving and updating our site and we will be able to show some photos in the Spring Term, once any projects are complete 📝

We are very grateful to TG Lynes and remain determined to continue to bid for any grants/funding available to schools. We are really striving to improve our site, which has lots of character but is over 118 years old so needs rather a lot of TLC!​ 😂

Well done to Oliver in 6H for winning the “Sports Person In Spotlight” challenge for October! 🏅
Each month the children have a challenge to research the sports person in spotlight and create something that represents them! Oliver built an impressive boxing ring as October’s sports person was the one and only 🥊 Well done to our runners up Yasmine (5L) and Jaianna (6H) for their wonderful fact files on Anthony Joshua! 💥 Lioness Chloe Kelly is our sportsperson for November and we can’t wait to see what the children create 🦁⚽️🥅

Every class at Southbury discussed the importance of Remembrance Day and every child then made a poppy for our whole school Remembrance display in the hall 🙏🏼

Our nursery children have been very busy this week learning about Diwali 🪔 They have made diya lamps, retold the story of Rama and Sita in their small world play and eaten some Indian sweets! 🍬 🥳

As part of our autumn topic this term the reception children enjoyed a walk to the local park to look for signs of autumn 🔍🍂They enjoyed making leaf piles and collecting leaves to bring back to school! They had lots of fun 😬🥳🍃🍂🌳

In Art, Year 2 made 3D clay sculptures in the style of Yayoi Kusama and painted them using Kusama’s famous polka dots! 👩🏾‍🎨🧑🏼‍🎨🎨

3NG are using the self-checking station to check their progress and independently mark. ✅📚📝 They are loving being the teacher!! 👩🏽‍🏫🧑🏻‍🏫
