🌿🍕 We had so much fun at Forest School this week! 🍰🌳

The children worked brilliantly as a team, collecting different "ingredients" from around the Forest School area to create their own imaginative meals. From spaghetti bolognese and cupcakes to pizza and chips, there were plenty of delicious mud kitchen creations on the menu! 🍝🧁🍕

As they mixed, scooped and poured their ingredients, the children were developing their fine motor skills and practising their counting too.

Once their tummies were "full" from all the tasty treats, they gathered pots, pans and sticks to create their very own nursery band! 🥁🎶 The children loved experimenting with different sounds and rhythms, making music together and having lots of fun outdoors.

✨ A fantastic session full of teamwork, creativity, learning and laughter! 🌿💚

Please read the recent sleep products warning for children.

Sleep products like these may look very cosy and inviting but many have been identified as a serious risk of suffocation, overheating and death if used for sleeping.

Sleep bags should be well fitted, (think neck and arm holes that fit well) so that your baby can’t wriggle down inside. Plus, any sleep bags with hoods or head coverings should be avoided.

Similarly, hug pillows can cause a baby to overheat or suffocate if used for sleeping. Pillows are not recommended for babies until they are at least 12 months old. It is much safer to sleep your baby on a firm, flat surface.

🌟 Outdoor Learning Adventure! 🌟

This afternoon, some of our children had the exciting opportunity to take part in outdoor learning at Southbourne Junior School.

The children were paired with some buddies from the junior school and enjoyed exploring a variety of activities together, including toasting marshmallows over the fire pit, pond dipping, and den building. 🔥🌿🏕️

It was wonderful to see the children building new friendships, developing their confidence, promoting risk and challenge and embracing the outdoor environment with such enthusiasm.

A huge thank you to Southbourne Junior's for such a fantastic opportunity.

We are incredibly proud of all the children, who behaved beautifully throughout the afternoon and were fantastic ambassadors for our setting. Well done everyone! ⭐👏

We are proud to share that our new team members recently completed a Paediatric First Aid course as part of their ongoing training and development. The course equipped them with the skills and confidence to respond to emergencies involving babies and young children, including CPR, choking, allergic reactions, and minor injuries. This training helps ensure we continue to provide a safe, caring, and supportive environment for all children in our care, giving families added reassurance that our team is prepared to act quickly and effectively when needed. 100% of our team are now trained.

We are proud to continue to be Millie’s Mark accredited, demonstrating our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of paediatric first aid within our setting. This prestigious accreditation recognises that we go above and beyond the minimum requirements, ensuring staff are fully trained and prepared to respond to emergencies involving babies and young children. By maintaining Millie’s Mark, we provide reassurance to families that children's safety, health, and wellbeing remain at the heart of everything we do.

The Family Learning team is offering a variety of free courses for parents, carers and families across West Sussex this September.

The sessions are designed to help families learn, grow and thrive together. They provide an opportunity to gain practical skills, build confidence, and support children's learning and development.

For Wellbeing Month, the children enjoyed making their own homemade face masks using safe, natural ingredients. This fun activity encouraged self-care, relaxation, and discussions about looking after our physical and emotional wellbeing. The children explored different textures and smells while developing their creativity and understanding of healthy habits and following instructions. It was a wonderful opportunity to promote confidence, mindfulness, and positive wellbeing in a hands-on way. 🌿😊

The children had a very exciting visit from the Ambulance Service. They were delighted to welcome the paramedics and learn all about the important work they do to help people in the community.

The children enjoyed exploring the ambulance and were given the opportunity to sit inside, where they learned about some of the equipment used during emergencies. The paramedics explained their role in a child-friendly way, answering questions and helping the children understand how they care for people when they are unwell or injured.
