Due to the forecast of high temperatures over the coming few days, children will be permitted to wear their school PE kit instead of their usual school uniform from Wednesday 24 June to Friday 26 June.

School PE kit is: plain white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers.

Please note, these are not non-uniform days therefore, no football/sports tops or fashion clothes.

In addition, please ensure your child brings a refillable water bottle to school which can be topped up throughout the day. We also recommend that suncream is applied to children before school and they bring a hat (for play and lunchtimes).

SPORT DAY POSTPONED

Due to the heat warnings that have been issued by the Met Office, we have made the decision to postpone Sports Day.

We know some of you will be disappointed and some relieved but please be assured that this decision was not taken lightly and was made with your children’s wellbeing as a top priority.

Sports Day will now take place on Wednesday 15 July; the timing will be the same.

The best kind of motivation!

Our incredible Education & Outreach Coordinator, Kate, had the absolute best start to her week on Monday when she visited Thorney Island Community Primary School!

She was invited along to kickstart their STEM Week with two special assemblies for the infants and juniors, diving deep into why it is so vitally important to protect our oceans and keep them plastic-free. 🌊

The children were absolute superstars and so engaged with the topic, but the junior classes completely blew Kate away. At the end of the session, they presented her with a beautiful collection of hand-drawn environmental posters they had made themselves!

These kids truly understand the assignment.

Our school assemblies and workshops are at the absolute heart of what we do at the Final Straw Foundation. Empowering and inspiring the next generation is the single best tool we have to protect our environment for the future. 🌱

A massive thank you to all the staff and students at Thorney Island Community Primary for having us, and an extra huge shoutout to the juniors for these brilliant posters😍

Crumble, our Pets As Therapy dog, enjoyed her activity for STEM week. The school has been buzzing with activities!

Year 6 Transition
We have been offered some small-group sessions to support some of our children with the transition to secondary school, as we know this can be a challenging time for some. These sessions are titled “Managing Transition Emotions” and would cover anxiety, resilience and some conflict resolution strategies (poster attached).

Off The Record, a local charity who support young people aged 11-25, will deliver two one-hour sessions in our school to a small group of our Year 6 children.

If you would like your Year 6 child to take part, please let Mrs Jennings or Mrs Jones know by Friday 5th June.
