The Centre was founded in 1992 and is situated in the heart of the village of Embsay. We offer preschool education and flexible daycare from birth to school age and out of school care. The aim is to provide an educationally stimulating and supportive but homely environment for all children throughout their preschool and primary education. We are the only local nursery to be accredited National Day

Nurseries Association e-Quality Counts and exceed Ofsted requirements for space, staff qualifications and staff ratios. Our staff team is unrivalled not just in terms of experience and qualifications but carefully chosen for their dedication to providing a high quality service and affinity with children. The team is led by headteacher Caroline who is a fully qualified teacher, forest school leader and was one of the first in the UK to be granted Early Years Professional status. Our facilities are equally impressive; we find the children really benefit from our extensive indoor and outdoor spaces.

New data published today by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows that cases of pertussis – also known as whooping cough or ‘100-day cough’ – have continued to rise in 2024.

There have been five infant deaths from whooping cough as cases rise. For more information go to:

The whooping cough vaccination is recommended for all pregnant women, ideally between 16 and 32 weeks pregnant. Find out how this vaccine may help protect your baby's health.

Message from Childcare Choices:

Your step-by-step guide to getting your childcare code for September

If you are an eligible working parent in England, you can apply for:

15 hours childcare per week over 38 weeks of the year, if you have a child between 9 months old and 3 years old. Your child must be at least 9 months old on or before 31st August.

30 hours childcare per week over 38 weeks of the year, if you have a child aged 3 or 4 years old.

You have until 31 August to get your code from gov.uk to start in September. However, it’s important to remember some childcare providers will have different deadlines. Make sure you speak to yours at an early stage to find out more about their arrangements.

If you plan to return to work from parental leave or start a new job by the end of September, you can apply for a childcare code at the same time as everyone else. You will then receive a letter in the post within 1 to 2 weeks.

Here’s how to get your childcare code:

1. Check your eligibility online on the Childcare Choices website.

2. Speak to your provider, such as your nursery or childminder. Check what their arrangements are and that they can offer your child a place.

3. Create a childcare account on gov.uk if you don’t already have one, where you can apply for your code. You’ll need:

your National Insurance Number (or unique taxpayer reference if you are self-employed)

the date you started or are due to start work

details of any government support or benefits you receive

the UK birth certificate reference number (if you have one) for your child

4. You may receive your code straight away, but it can take up to 7 days. You should then give this code to your provider.

5. Reconfirm your details on your gov.uk childcare account every 3 months.

If you have already applied for your code to start in September and received it before 1 June, you may need to reconfirm your details before you take up a place in September. Log into your childcare account on gov.uk to check when you need to do so.

If you needed to reconfirm your details for Tax-Free Childcare before 12 May and your reconfirmation window opened after 9 June, you will have received a letter from HMRC with a valid temporary code.

It is with great sadness that we have agreed to the felling of our two beautiful beech trees. The trees are over 100 years old and dominate Pasture Road but our consultants have told us that they can longer guarantee their safety as they are very close to houses and so the council has reluctantly also agreed that they should be removed. We will of course be planting some replacement trees which will not become as large as beech.
The tree surgeon who has been caring for the trees will be coming to remove them on Monday 12th February (the start of half term week) which unfortunately will mean closing Pasture Road near to the Children’s Centre. They will complete the work as quickly as they can but have obtained consent from NYCC to close the road for up to five days.

We appreciate that this will be very inconvenient for users of Pasture Road but hope we can assure you that road closures will be kept to an absolute minimum and the work done as quickly as possible.

Following this morning’s news and further guidance last week from the DfE, it is with much sadness that we have decided to cancel our children's visit to see Father Christmas on Christmas Eve. For 95 children and families to meet him in person is too much of a risk both to Father Christmas, and to our wider community. However, Father Christmas is working from home as much as he can this year and will ensure your gifts will be at the Centre for you to collect before Christmas.

In the next few weeks we will have a few surplus freezer packs of our Embsay Jacob lamb

Boxes are either a complete lamb or half lamb, butchered by Barkers (Skipton) into suitable cuts, sealed in bags ready for the freezer.

Strictly speaking this is hogget (18 month old). Jacobs grow very slowly and ours are rarely ready for the butcher until they are over a year old. This does mean that the joints are best cooked for a long period at a low temperature but then the flavour and texture is as good as it gets!

Cost is £7 per kilo which works out at about £45 for a half lamb.

Please email [email protected] if you would like to reserve a pack.
